A fine start to the mysteries that lie within the Archives, I'm sure you'll agree!
Does anyone else happen to have a tale of strange goings on in the fantastically atmospheric city that is Edinburgh? Having only experienced it at Fringe time, I'd be interested if its spooky reputation is well deserved.

I really enjoyed that! just listened to it while at work and got chills down my spine!
I live pretty close to Edinburgh so visit pretty regularly. the last time I was meeting a friend in Grassmarket for drinks. That evening ended up with me walking back to the tram station on my own in the dark. luckily I didn't walk up fishmarket close but I know that street pretty well (my favourite restaurant "wings" is on said street) but I did walk up one of many small dark streets and by god are they creepy.
This episode was amazing, as someone who knows the areas and streets described I could imagine everything so clearly. I was interested to see how horror would work in an audio form as most horror now a days uses visual imagery to get the scares, the pacing for this was perfect and you only realise the scary part as the protagonist does, so good! Although this does have me slightly worried to go walking round Edinburgh on my own now! haha
cant wait for more of this!

Me too, with the closes. Any time I've been in Carrubbers Close (between the Royal Mile, steeply down to just under North Bridge near the north exit from Waverley), I've had the distinct sensation of someone walking riiiight behind me, almost stepping on my heels. I'm sure it's a trick of the acoustics, or perspective or whatever - but it's eerie as hell, and happens every time, so I usually avoid it. I've been on the tour that takes you into Greyfriars Kirkyard. Whilst I didn't get scratched or bitten spookily whilst standing outside Bloody Mackenzies tomb, I could have sworn a little kids hand touched my arm when there were no little kids there. Freaked me right out. Oh, and for some reason I always always find weird little lucky things happen to me when I'm in Stockbridge. I'm just plain luckier there. Things that should have killed me merely scarred me. My absolute lowest moments were transformed into real opportunity. I really want to find a way to play a game there

Whooooaaaahhh so spooky and atmospheric. Ended up stopping what I was doing on a multiple of occasions just to listen more intently, loved the sound design/acting and direction. Very excited for more I've always wanted to go to Edinburgh, I'll have to try and make it to the fringe one year... And to try and not be terrified to walk alone at night!

If you go during August, you're highly unlikely to ever truly be alone. I'm guessing, but it's probable that most of the people on this forum have only ever been during the festivals.
Just try walking through those closes in the wee hours of a cold and rainy night in January. When there really is no one about and the old town takes on the appearance of a row of vicious snaggley beast teeth...

Yeah, only ever been during festival season. I've done some late night walks back from places and definitely felt some chills, particularly when crossing under the bridges.

I can tell Jonathan knew what he was talking about when writing the setting here, as someone who's lived near Edinburgh all my life and spent the better part of eight years attending University there! This episode was certainly a great hook, and I always thought that Edinburgh's closes would make a fantastic and underused setting for creepy stories. Nowhere else I've been has an ambience and atmosphere quite like those narrow closes and stairs. Some old somewhat grainy photographs by me of the general Edinburgh night ambience, for the curious, here. Sadly I don't have the close in question in my pictures, the episode reminds me I'm years overdue a photographic expedition there.

I can tell Jonathan knew what he was talking about when writing the setting here, Definitely, given a fair number of the RQ crew have spent their Augusts haunting the streets of Edinburgh during the Fringe
