I've got some ideas about what I'd want to do for this type of podcast. I'd need to sit down with the other dude for his input, but I have an interesting direction to take this in...

If you tell me some context ie what kind of podcast it is and where you are recording, eg. On site, in a studio, on your roof... I can certainly pass on some advice. Sorry for the slow reply! I wasn't expecting you to be so responsive! Basically it's going to be me and a friend doing reviewing events, and doing the occasional interview with third-parties. We're probably going to be recording in my flat which I *think* is pretty quiet (but of course microphones will pick up everything!). I'm a mac person, and I plan to use Audacity for doing most of the editing, etc. Basically the bits I'm really interested in are knowing if you have any recommendation for good microphones, and anything else we may need - pop filters, a mixer, etc. Cheers! You will want a audio technica Mic. Which type is entirely down to budget. Ones with USB cables are cheaper and easier but gives worse quality than XLRs with a preamp but obviously the price can vary wildly. Maybe consider and Iicle (XLR to use converter). There are plenty of package deals for Podcasters available online.
Get pop filters. We can't have them because of the mics we use and it's an awful lot of editing as a result. Make sure to cover every hard surface in towels and duvets when recording. You could get away with using one hanging boom mic but it will sound a LOT better if you use three individual mics.
Also audacity doesn't like you recording multiple mics directly into it simultaneously. Especially if each of them is a USB mic. It may crash a lot with three people. We record into Cubase then lift the raw audio into audacity for editing.
Everything I have said here is the closest to an "industry standard" but your set up will always be very individual due to size etc.

Nice. I reckon I'm going to work towards making THAT happen. Seems perfectly doable if my boss gives me a bonus this year, as I've received in recent years. That does mean waiting until September or so, but I know how RL and I work and that extra time is a very good thing in terms of laying detailed ground work...
