There's a lot of The Magnus Archives to come, and I have a whole deluge of #spooky content to unleash upon you all, but it recently came to my attention (through the unsettling tale of the ever-sinister samanthae), that some people on these very forums might have resources that would be harvestable for my own dark purposes. So I thought I'd start a thread where you can share any unsettling things that have happened to you. Give me your weird meetings, strange finds, or even just tell me what your fears are.
NB - if you would be uncomfortable with your experiences being used in the podcast in some way, please make it clear in the thread. Otherwise I may take the seed you give, plant it and see what horrors grow in the sinister soil of the Magnus Archives.

ooh I don't think I have ever been described as 'sinister' before! if you meet me you would probably think the opposite, 4ft 11in blonde person who weighs less than 50kg, not the personification of spooky scary! I'm so glad my creepy tale is helpful in some way, I don't know if there's anymore I can say about the incident with the milk bottles but if you have questions please let me know. I was going to email mail@rustyquill.com but I never got round to it. as for any other creepy story's I have the one of the man found impaled by a tree. this is one of those ' a co-worker worked with a guy who...' kind of things, but my polish co-worker used to survey a lot in eastern Europe before coming to the UK, he heard that a guy went surveying on his own in evergreen forestry (pine trees, sika spruce, Norwegian spruce etc etc) SIDE NOTE: as stated in the last story these plantations can be huge and not many people go walking around in them, unless there stupid surveyors, but hey we get paid to do it. so this guy was on his own surveying as I think he was gonna be out for a couple of days, so no one thought to look for him but once he missed his safety call and no one had heard from him they went looking. ANOTHER SIDE NOTE: most evergreen trees don't have a deep root system, their roots are usually quite shallow. this leaves them easily prone to falling over during high winds. large sections of forest can fall over and it leaves a mess and massacre of broken trees and branches on top of each other its really hard to describe (best thing I can suggest is google 'storm damaged forest'), we call it windblow we have always been told to be careful when it comes to surveying windblow, climb into it maybe 10m and you can get yourself stuck or worse you could get easily lost and disorientated. were told to skirt the edge of it and mark on the map the area of windblow. well this guy didn't do that, he ploughed directly into the middle of a large section of windblow. climbing over and under lots of fallen tree trunks and debris. Logs and trees are pretty slippery, especially when covered in moss. this guy was climbing over a large log which was laying on a lot of debris when he slipped. everything shifted underneath him and he landed heavily right onto a pretty sharp bit of broken branch below him. he was there for over a day before he died and they believe he died from shock, dehydration and blood loss. Not sure how helpful this story will be but you never know we're pretty sick and twisted people at work and we always joke to each other before going into a large section of forest, we say "don't get impaled!" but deep down it has all terrified us this story, none of us go near any kind of windblow now, and safety measures when working alone are pretty strict. I really love the Magnus Archives and I always wonder from what's already been released, how many of the story's have sections of truth to them/ they could actually all be true and we live in a much stranger world than I realise

This is a very cool idea I enclose my weird (true) encounter. I also don't believe in ghosts or the supernatural which makes this weirder for me to share.
The only weird thing that ever happened to me was when I was about seven, my mum had taken us to stay with my godparents, and in the middle of the night I remember waking up from the noise of parents and adults talking and drinking downstairs I went to get some water, but there was a young blonde girl sitting at the top of the stairs crying with tiny small sobs. I remember being transfixed by looking at her through the banister railings - she was lit beautifully from the warm light in the kitchen. I took a moment and asked her what was wrong but she didn't even register that I was there. I asked her again but she didn't even seem to hear me, just big tears rolling down her cheeks. I forgot about my thirst and went back to bed, I was tired and thought that an adult from downstairs would hear her and sort her out. The only thing was My Godparents had children but they were older than me by quite a few years and this girl was my age. As far as I know there were no other children in the house.
The next day there was no girl and it was announced on the radio that Lady Dianna had died, and then many people were crying... which is possibly why I remembered this encounter... I didn't mention it to my mother or anyone, possibly because I didn't want to be told it was just a dream...

So my weird thing that happpens quite alot, is stuff moves round my flat. Before you think im forgetful hear me out.
The most noticible happened when i used to live in my old flat (which was a new build, so not a onld spooky house) i was getting ready to go to bed, I had my usual routine of heading into getting ready for bed, pluging my phone in to charge and getting into bed, usually with the lights off.
This time I went in my room, and turned off the light put my phone on my bed, got ready and then climbed into bed. Went to reach for my phone to make sure my alarm was on for work in the morning, and couldnt find it. So i naturally though that i had left it in the lounge, so off i went to find it, searched the lounge, kitchen and bathroom nothing.
So i headed over to my landline, which was on a self on the other side of my bedroom to ring my mobile, and there it was sat balanced ontop on my house phone.
Stufff like that always happens to me, like today i heard someone say my name in my ear, but aint no one in my flat but me........
If the Maganas Achive was really i would have deffently gone in to see them at some point.

I can't think of any speciffic strange things that have happened that i could describe in length, however I have had too many strange dreams and seen a lot at night after waking up (like hallucinations/lucid drams of some sort). This waas one I found particularly creepy: When I was little, I used to wake up a lot in the night - like I would go weeks without having a single full night's sleep. And on mtany occasions I would 'see' a man in my bedroom. He was quite old and had a hooked nose, pointy chin and wore a battered trilby hat (I can't rmember if he had any paticular types of clothing, only that they were dark). The strangest thing was that he was in black and white, like in an old film... Most of the time he would be stnding in the corner of my room, but sometimes he would be sitting in my desk chair and once or twice e would be leaning over me while I was in bed - but I only remember the view of that from the side and since I dream in third person I would imagine that was just part of a dream. As I got older, I didn't see him as much, but it felt a lot more real than any other nightmare I ever had as a kid so I dunno. In recent years, he's only ever appeared in dreams, staring through windows and the like, but not very often. To this day, I still make sure my wardrobe is closed, my door is slightly open and all the chairs on my room are sidways to my bed so I can see if anyone is sitting in them. I have plenty more of strange dream like things I can share, some more creepy than others, so let me know if you'd like to hear more --- I also just remembered a thing that actually did happen, although what we found out after kinda negates the scaryness of it. When I was maybe 8 or 9, I went on holiday to Cornwall with my parents. We had been doing a lot of looking for holy wells and that sort of thing and we had set off to Madron where there was one of these wells. I remember walking for quite a bit to get it, although I can't remember much about it. We had almost got there and there was this old tree in the middle of the path with allthese rags of cloth hanging from it. It was late afternoon and it was just beginning to get a little dark, so it was almost sinister to see all these rags tied to the tree all over its branches. We swiftly turned round and walked in the other direction because we all felt like there was a slightly sinister atmosphere there. Turns out when we asked the National Trust people that it was a tradition that people tied bits of fabric to the trees hoping for a miracle (or something like that. I can't remember, I was 8), but it was definitely a spooky experience and we didn't go back there for the rest of the holiday.

Why did I read this post at midnight?! Anywho, my wierd story isn't as odd as the rest. I work in central London and usually get the bus home from the station. My fiancé normally has the car for work (commuting to Reading), but a few weeks ago she was on half term and out of the country, so I was free to drive the car to the station rather than deal with the irritatingly inconsistent buses. On the Wednesday of that week, I was driving home on my normal foresty route, I was just coming into my village and wasn't paying 100% attention to the road (pretty sure I was singing to myself, pretty standard behaviour for me). As I drove, something dashed out from the tree line. Too slow to react, the thing smacked into my windscreen and rolled out of sight. Shocked, I didn't think to look behind me and just kept driving, cursing myself for going too fast or not paying attention. I had hit a bird before whilst driving, and assumed that's what it was. I remembered the slight smear of wildlife filth, but I couldn't see anything like that this time. I got home, checked there had been no damage and went in to relax for the evening. I didn't think much of the thing I hit that evening. I don't recall what I did that evening, TV or Xbox most likely. What I do remember is the dream I had that night. I was driving on that same road, through the trees. Suddenly, just had happened during the day, something flew out of the forest and struck the windscreen. It was small, almost certainly a bird. I looked back and saw nothing on the road behind me. I looked back and continued driving. A few seconds later something else flew out of the forest, this time, though, I saw it was some sort of small dog. Mousy brown with short hair and big black eyes. It hit the windscreen at exactly the same place and I heard it tumblr over the roof. Again, I looked back and saw nothing. This time, when I returned to facing forward, I saw where it had hit the windscreen and saw that it had left a brown smudge on the window. As I continued a third thing flew out of the forest. I really cant remember what it was, all I remember was that it was dark, almost black, and had pure sharp White teeth. Where this one hit the windscreen, it cracked, almost straight across my vision. I didn't even have time to process this before the stag leapt out of the trees. This beat was different. Not content to hit the car and roll over it, the deer crashed head first through the windscreen, so it's head, and horns, were inside the car. It thrashed and gnashed and kicked as I uselessly flailed it to pull its stuck head. Somehow, and I can't remember how, it became free, it's head lolling in defeat, jaw hanging loose it retreated in a roll over the car. The fourth one was the most unsettling and something that stopped me. It was a man, or at least man shaped, but with long stretches limbs. This one wasn't hit by the car, but clawed st the crack from the other animals to get into the car. That was when i saw its face,a human face devoid of mouth, nose and hair. Instead, his whole head was completely covered in eyes. I awake suddenly, heart pounding, and I could have sworn I saw a figure standing in the corner of my room. I drove past that same road the next morning to check for dead animals, but saw nothing, save from a thick black liquid as though something had been dragged back off into that forest. I take a different route home now.

This isn't really a fear, but certainly quite an odd synchronicity. I do have a slightly more frightening story, but I'll share that when I have more time to write it down.
When I was a young child I was obsessed with motorbikes, to the point that my parents would have to take me out in the car and drive me past a nearby motorbike dealership so that I knew all the bikes had gone to bed before I would go to sleep. Apparently they dreaded passing a bike on the road because I wouldn't go to sleep until I believed all the motorbikes had gone to sleep.
Around the same time I often had very troubled sleep. I suffered from severe night terrors, but would report upon waking that i'd be ok because Captain Hook was looking after me.
My mum occasionally visited mediums and tarot readers and on one such occasion the medium commented that she had a child who couldn't sleep. She confirmed this and the medium continued that my mother needn't worry because an old friend of hers was looking after me. Specifically, a friend that I would have recognised as captain hook...
This really took my mother aback, as she considered her old friend Neil. He was thin and had long dark curly hair and wore a thin moustache and goatee. Neil had been a very close friend before he died in a motorbike accident over a decade before I was born. So my mum got home and showed me a photograph of her friend and asked if I recognised him. I immediately said 'yes! that's captain hook!'

My bedroom window overlooks a children's playground.
I keep my curtains closed at night, because if there's ever anyone there, I'd prefer to be killed in my sleep.

Schools are admittedly super creepy when empty. I used to go to one that had a converted convent building where a woman hung herself in the attic. That was where I had my English lessons.

Oh... schoolyard playground at night just gave the the most amazing idea for a creepy story! *runs off to write it* (and just to stay on topic here, we had a ghost who lived in the attic of my house growing up. We'd always hear footsteps up there when we were all downstairs. Just paced back and forth. Never bothered anyone - unless you were bothered by that, I suppose.)

My flat mate was telling me yesterday that she often listens to TMA whilst swimming, and now I definitely think you should write an episode about horrible things happening to people whilst partially submerged. *evil grin*
My own personal fear is horses (meaning I am Hippophobic, which is an excellent word). The only related thing that freaks me out (apart from just real life actual horses being near me) is horse statues - especially the ones at camden market. They look like the process of petrification was extremely painful and they've been trapped in a state of never-ending agony, and that one day they will definitely awake with a taste for human flesh and a desire for revenge.

how does she listen while swimming?! I'd love to listen to podcasts while swimming!
I understand your fear of statues, my dad once turned to a 5 year old me while we where shopping one day and said "you know mannequins are just dead people covered in plastic" that's shit will scar your child! Now I cant walk past shops or go through places like madame tussauds without breaking into a cold sweat.
P.S Don't ever drive past Falkirk Bryn, you wont like the Kelpies. Giant horse statues on the side of the Motorway.

I believe you can get waterproof wireless headphones so you can leave your phone by the side of the pool and swim while consuming media to your hearts content.
The alternative is that BSR's flatmate has a pool and an awesome speaker system.

A map - tinyurl.com/hnwq6book, so when i was a student I used to live in Glasgow in the City Center in an old converted warehouse on Bell street. (You can see it on the map running parallel to Parsonage square, I lived at the end furthest from High street). I was used to walking home from the student union and it was pretty safe. My usual route home from the union was down to Ingram Street, along as far as the Ramshorn Church, across the car park opposite to Blackfriars Street and then through there to High Street. One night when I was walking back at 1am i think, not actually drunk, maybe a couple of beers, but alone and the streets were quiet, literally no-one anywhere and no cars. I got to the car park, which has a low black rail fence that is easy to step over and... you couldn't have paid me a million bucks to go across. There was something there in the car park, that I couldn't see, but was watching me. I know it was watching me because as I walked round the car park I could feel it. It was at the back in the middle, next to the wall where there wasn't a car and I knew that if i stepped over the rail and crossed something really bad was going to happen to me. It watched me the whole time i went around and it must have moved, because I could feel its eyes on my back as I walked down Blackfriars Street right until i turned onto High Street and i felt the change in being out of sight. Needless to say I didn't turn round at that point, just hurried. The only thing I could think it was was demon. It wasn't a ghost, it was far too powerfully bad for that. I think they like to find people alone, a little alcohol in them, familiar enough with surroundings to override gut instinct...
