So... anyone for starting a petition that Zolf, Hamid and Sasha should *never* travel anywhere as a group of three? Our intrepid heroes, having decided to head off into the dank tunnels under Paris with little in the way of preparation, find themselves at a distinct disadvantage when the environment takes a turn for the worse. Can things get much worse as Hamid finds himself at the mercy of 1/8000 odds? What horrors of soundscaping lie in the darkness? (And no, this isn't a crossover with Ep15 of The Magnus Archives, though I suspect I'm going to have to be giving those kind of assurances a lot in the coming weeks... ) Kudos for some excellent tension building and for the party in giving us an object lesson in why spontaneity might as well be a synonym for 'near TPK'. What they wouldn't give for an Infinite Improbability Drive now, eh?

1/20 x 1/20 x 1/20 = 1 in 8000 chance. That's even worse.

The biggest lesson I took from today's episode is: "don't use a bomb to clear rubble in a collapsing tunnel".

While this episode was rather static (ya know, on account of everyone being BURIED ALIVE), I really enjoyed the tension that the dice rolls create. I imagine that although a 'TPK' is a GM fantasy, even Alex must be somewhat rooting for our intrepid Rangers and the fact that the story unfolds based on the random outcome of the dice is really fun to listen to.
Also, three 1s are too much. It's EASY Hamid, look: mEQlNJCz1-20

Even though this episode was in 1 corridor (brilliant editing by the way), I still felt that it was very good, the tension building up in between people getting out of the rubble and then searching for their friends meant that it felt there was an attachment between the party and each PC. However there is a thing that I should bring up. In order to channel energy, doesn't Zolf need to produce his holy symbol as well, I'm not 100% sure of how he was stuck at that point, but the way it came across sound like he just screamed a prayer to Poseidon. Also, which days will you be at nineworlds, because I would prefer to buy a ticket sooner rather than later.

I did read Lydia's Grauniad article. It seems very appropriate right now, the messages I took from it being "MORE contingencies", and "Embrace the Weird". Thank you all for a wonderful episode last night - I found the odd disconnect of having such a bottle episode after a two week wait worked really well with tension and peril the dice produced. I'll understand if you guys want to attribute it to random chance, but of course I know this was meticulously planned Something tells me that Hamid's mental scars will possibly rival his physical ones. And what the hell, Zolf? Losing one leg could be counted as a mistake, but two? The idea of a full cleric battle dwarf being wheeled into battle like a Pratchett character does appeal though... Also, hi James! Having listened to the previous episodes blooper reel just before this one, I could somehow sense your presence there. Your voice is so powerful you don't even have to say anything to use it, if you so choose.

Technically true ("A cleric must be able to present her holy symbol to use this ability."), though I guess Alex let him have it to help balance out some of the worst of that 1/8000 critical fail. Good storytelling is a good reason why pretty much every rule can (and should) be a little...bendy.

I was really proud of this episode, felt like such a good one. It's been an excellent experience to play a character who really struggles to cope with the perils of adventuring. I feel like every other character I play has not even noticed the peril and horror and grimness of it all, and it's been so interesting to play a character who is so affected by that.

My title for this episode would have been:
Rocks fall; everyone's maimed.

My title for this episode would have been: Rocks fall; everyone's maimed. Well, Sasha's relatively intact...
