Although I'm much less of an aficionado than most people on here I've got a couple of suggestions (although I suspect most people will already be aware of them).
Book - World War Z - Some absolutely fantastic exploration of life in a zombie apocalypse ranging from funny to chilling. Of particular note is an exploration of the Parisian Catacombs and getting stuck in a swamp in southern USA TV Series - Attack on Titan - Although it has the usual schlocky manga tones, it's an incredible portrayal of a terrifyingly powerful, unknowable and almost passive enemy. I think it captures the horror of zombies much better than anything more Romeroesque Game - INSIDE - Short puzzle platformer with subtly horrific undertones. Although it isn't likely to scare the crap out of anyone there are some exquisitely creepy images and themes littered throughout (it's also a bloody good game).

I love the book of World War Z. There's also a really good multicast audiobook with Mark Hamill, Jurgen Prochnow and others. It's abridged, but well worth a listen (the downed pilot story has me in tears every time). Be aware that there is a later unabridged audio adaptation that is pretty rubbish, so this is one case where getting the earlier version is the best option.

Just watched Residue - a netflix series that starts with a mysterious explosion in the middle of a city some years into the future. It's excellent and creepy.

Just watched February/The Blackcoat's daughter, which is a very compact little horror film that's heavy on the dread and creeping horror. Summary would spoil it, I think.

Horror-comedy is fine, right? Just found Stan Against Evil. Parody with a lot of splatter-y effects and weirdo characters all around. Haven't watched all episodes yet, but the ones I saw were all hilarious!
