6th December feels like a long way away, and my daily commute is less exciting now that Jonathan Sims' dulcet tones aren't unsettling me. So, what are you all listening to before it comes back? I've already plundered Kitsune 's ideas and listened to Limetown, which was really good. I've also finished binge listening to No Such Thing as a Fish, which is a comedy facts podcast by the 'QI Elves', which is pretty funny. Obvs RQG is a big one, but I've already listened to that quite a lot, looking for something new!

If you've never heard Knifepoint Horror, give it a listen. No longer running, alas, but it was a big influence on TMA and I still hold it up as the gold standard of horror fiction podcasting. No mysteries or titles or credits, just fear.

I recommend The Truth! A thing I've noticed with many horror/mistery fiction podcasts is that a lot of them rely on the whole "this is an actual podcast/radio show guys, we swear!" And although it can be fun (I'm thinking Limetown, The Black Tapes and Tanis, which are the ones that got me hooked to podcasts in the first place), it tends to feel a bit overused after a while, at least for me. That's why I find The Truth refreshing: it's 100% audio drama, and though not all of it is horror, they do have some very creepy stories. It's very well done, the voice acting, sound effects and writing are amazing, and you really feel like you're listening to a film!

Try the Bright Sessions, really well produced and performed, a therapist to 'unusual' folk - I binged it within two days I loved it so much!

Shout out to "Lore". True stories, though obviously some details are fudged for the spook factor.

I'm binging Wolf 359 right now. Going off the first few episodes I thought it would be mostly lighthearted, but it gets a lot deeper once you get a bit of a way into it. Still keeps a good bit of humour through the narrator though, which I've appreciated, as it can be surprisingly heavy. Thoroughly enjoying it.

Just finished Knifepoint Horror - hoo boy was that a thrilling series. Particular shoutouts to "eyes", "sounds", "plague", "possession", "undead" and perhaps the most terrifying one, innocuously called "staircase".
The enormity of thinking of the whole series like this has put goosebumps on my arms, so I shall take my leave until the presence of it in my mind has shrunk from a terrifying monolith of doom to a creepy amulet that is safe to take out and wear in public.

...and perhaps the most terrifying one, innocuously called "staircase". Why is this one so scary?! What the hell, I remember listening to it and, at the time being pretty meh about it, but I can't stop thinking about it! It just unsettled me to my very core and I don't know why. And I don't want to listen to it again to find out!!

And I don't want to listen to it again to find out!! Is there a way of doing spoiler tags on proboards? If not, I might edit this post with my theory in white text... EDIT: I feel like it's the same thing TMA started hinting at in the last episode - true horror isn't necessarily the things that go bump in the night, because those are "known unknowns". The idea that someone you're interacting with on a perfectly normal, human level can instead be an "unknown unknown" is even more terrifying. The idea that anyone could be as bad as the monsters that we invent for our amusement means *we aren't **ever** safe*.
Also, the description of her almost child-like attempt to scare the narrator is disconcerting, elegant and well-described, which is certainly why it stuck with me.

Limetown seconded. Pity there won't be a second season in the near future. It's not scary like Magnus but the writing and production are best of class.
Alice Isn't Dead from the principal creator of Night Vale is great. Touring the hidden horrors of post-industrial America through truck stops and warehouse districts maybe touches too many nerves right now, but it's so well realized, and CB radio is such a great medium for fragmented first person accounts.
The NoSleep Podcast is as hit and miss as r/nosleep itself. See if you can find the episodes containing "New Fish", "The Stump", the "Penpal" six-parter, and "Toothache".

I second 'Alice isn't dead' - Jasika Nicole is excellent in this, the perfect voice.

Third for Alice Isn't Dead! Just finished Black Tapes, now moving on to TANIS...
For a short one (seriously, about 2 hours in total) check out "The Message". Not truly horror, but suspenseful and twist-y.
