We revisit the horrors of war this week and find that there may be something more rotten at play than just the smell of the bodies in the African heat. New information shows that familiar stories may only scratch the surface when the library of Jurgen Leitner might be involved. And history, as we have seen, has a way of revealing unpleasant or uncomfortable things about familiar names. But it's really nice to see that, despite its somewhat maligned reputation, the Institute does have its fans amongst the public. Even if they can come across as a bit *too* ardent... Though, how much are we to read into Gertrude's supposed unilateral decisions regarding the book? Is/Was it really a Leitner? And what of the weaving together again of insects and disease? Is this really the third appearance of John Amherst as seen before in MAG036 (Taken Ill) and MAG055 (Pest Control) or just coincidence? And let's just thank Sasha's forgetfulness for letting her be there to help the Archivist out.

Losing focus? Slightly taller? For pities sake, Archivist, I take it all back, stay in the caverns as long as you like!

Joseph walked the line between being refreshingly familiar and irritating (as a character) - is that what we all sound like?! Also fun to think that, given this was June 2003, this is a 50-50 on being a statement delivered to Fiona Law, Gertrude's predecessor, she of the suspected-drinking-herself-to-death fame...

Well, so far we've had Pestilence (everything Amhurst, the Snow syringe, the blood bag) War (WW1's bone flute-playing piper), and Death(s). If we could just find Famine, we'd have a full house for the Apocalypse.

Just as a clarification - Fiona Law was a research assistant, not the head archivist, though she did occasionally take statements. Gertrude was still the head archivist back then, and for a good long time before that.

I really enjoyed this one, the juxtaposition between the super keen author and the dark twisted tales he wrote. Very interesting. I think he might be my favourite character so far. Obsessive fans strike a bit of an accord with me, not sure why!

Someone remind me, was the Swoopy Doppelganger Table (this is its official name) in the tunnels, or did Sasha encounter it in the artifact storage? I'm trying to think of what she could've been doing down there in order to run into Jonathan. It seems to me that whatever force is attracting Jonathan to the tunnels is likely controlling (Not-)Sasha as well. Does she venture into the tunnels often? Or was she there specifically to find Jonathan?
Also interesting that Jonathan saw through her, just for a second.

I'm back after a very long absence due to.. uh, sickness... don't look at me like that it's a coincidence that I've returned for this episode. I'm caught up on episodes, but I have a lot of red string and theoryposts to catch up on here.
Omjs, it was in storage (and still is, I think) but given what we know of its history, those spiders in the tunnels probably aren't unrelated.
