Wherein the old adage becomes "Walk softly and carry a spell to create a big shiny tank". Doesn't quite roll off the tongue as readily though...
So, our heroes find themselves between a lock and a hard place, trapped by La Gourmande's 'representatives' from both ends of the spectrum of persuasive force. And Bertie's legendary prowess of keeping schtum is once more on full display.
Nice attempted bluff there but, of course, you can't bluff a bluffer though the game still has to play out. Very interesting to see Hamid unrestrained now that he seems to have reached a breaking point and some good worldbuilding info on orcs as well.
So, where next? And will Wilde finally be able to impart the information he's been trying to? How keenly do the Rangers want to stay in Paris and try to stop La Gourmande's seeming bid for control?
The city stands on a tipping point... What would you do at this point?

I could be wrong, but this feels like the first fight where Sasha wasn't wrecking everything that dared be hostile.

Because we were the hunted, rather than the hunters. Same thing happened in the paris catacombs.

I'm finally caught up. I've been binging this series while at work for the past week or two, and like all episodic adventures there is a sort of sadness to the end of immediate gratification. (I found Rusty Quill via Magnus Archives via Tanis)
I love that Oscar Wilde is a bard. Though I must say, I'm surprised Sasha didn't use that lovely invisibility potion to go scout for archers.
I was really really surprised by the "representative" Hamid killed in a single hit. I totally took him for a secretly powerful sorcerer.... and then he was just gone. It's got to burn Hamid a bit though, knowing he wasted a powerful spell on a civilian rather than on an actual opponent.
Quick point though, the subject title, "Orc-estral maneuvers in the dark"... I can't look at that title without accompanying it to the tune of "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park".
