OR: "The masks we wear"
A strange and viscerally disturbing statement from the Archives today, as we get insects, rot and papier mache building to a mysterious whole, perhaps even whole people... And then we have Martin, trying to do his best and soldier on in the absence of the Archivist. And when you're two people down, surely you'd be glad of some extra help - so isn't it nice that Elias is there to offer a job to someone who has some connection with the strange world you inhabit. Elias has everyone's best interests at heart...
So, we have Martin in a fluster, a mysterious old lady with an insectile connection and now Melanie, drawn into the web of intrigue and mystery that are the Archives. What stories will she bring to light? Is it a good thing that she's here? And how do you think Tim will take to having a new colleague?

Tim will blame Martin for letting Elias enlist Melanie. Martin will blame himself, but only secretly. Melanie will be very confused why all these people are actively unhappy to see her. Sasha-based misunderstandings will occur, and be darkly humourous.

Hehe, poor Martin. *pet-pet* I guess now that he reads statements too the influence of the Beholding will get a lot stronger. But he probably was more susceptible to it than Tim from the beginning, he's more curious about what's going on. Should there be another assistant-death this season, that could well be the reason. Asking the wrong questions to the wrong people is dangerous. On the other hand, Tim seems to really hate not being able to get away from the Archive in general by now and might therefore be "less useful" to the Eye. Both pretty precarious situations.

The mental image of Jonathan Sims murdering someone with a pipe-for-smoking is one of my new favorite things. I like to think he'd be wearing a smoking jacket and ascot just for the occasion.
I can't help but think that Tim's life just got more difficult, though. I don't foresee Melanie being a calm voice of reason in all of this.
