OR: "Vices and Victims""What do you call a dead squizard?" "Calamagi" I think that pretty much sums up the key takeaway from this episode Applause to Lydia and kudos to Grizzop for the great 'callback' when doing crowd control. So, we find out about what secrets brother Saleh has been keeping, how Barrett got involved and Sasha attempts to work out her problems by talking them through, although Azu might not have got the comforting therapist schtick quite right yet... And Sasha also reminds us that gargoyles are probably the best of RQG's ancillary NPCs. Plus, bonus worldbuilding as we learn about the nature of resurrection and Meritocratic authority. So... where do you think LOLOMG should go from here? Are things as simple as Hamid not giving the ring to Saleh? How will his father attempt to smooth things over for the public image? What other secrets do the sands of Egypt hold for our ragtag protagonists?

Having a palladin of Aphrodite so utterly failing at comforting Sasha was really fun to listen too. But one also has to keep in mind, that Azu does not know Sasha for long and so cannot quite understand her problems with Barrett und the squizard. And I was really happy, when Sasha found some Gargoyels again to comfort her. Gargoyels seem to be perfect at helping other people.
Seeing Grizzop taking care of the squizard's corpse with saying that the guards should just burn it made me have a laugh, becaus I just imagined that the guards just burnt it right there on the ground during the wake so everyone can see it.
And Hamid's family turns out to be like every rich, powerful family which is used to having money solving all the problems and suddenly encountering problems you cannot just buy your way out. Hamid has surely realised already that that is not the way the world works, his brother is on the way to maybe realise it, but his father just does not get it right now. So I still see very hard times for Hamid and his family "dealing" with problems money cannot solve.
Last thing I want to mention is that I am thinking that Hamid's brother may was sent out by Barrett to steal the heart of Aphrodite, which may or may not be very bad for Sasha. Because Barrett will not just let her use it without making everything worse for her and maybe the others. So Lydia may get her secretly undead zombie character she seemed to like in the metacast about magic.

i think that was some of the most emotional sasha has ever been. shes been through so much, and then Barrett's not even after her, but just seeing his minion breaks her? i think there's more to her past than i realised.
also well done to Alex - roleplaying a conversation between two NPCs cannot be easy
(it was my first A level this morning and knowing there was going to be a new episode of this to look forward to when i got home was a godsend! i was even listening to the start of the podcast again to calm down before my exam!)

Hope your exam went well! (And now feeling really old, since my own A-levels were 20yrs ago...) And yes, NPC conversations are often really tricky - from my own experience, a game I ran had one scene where 4 different groups arrived in a room at the same time (to claim an artifact). One group was the PCs (4 players), another was a set of crusaders (4 NPCs) who ended up allying with the PCs, and the other 2 were evil groups (4 and 3 NPCs) who were antagonistic to each other as well as the other 2 groups. And the encounter started with threats and taunts being flung between the various groups... It was amazing, confusing and not something I ever wish to do again

Poor Sasha. This one broke my heart a little bit. She's done some incredibly heroic things, but she's done them on her own in the dark and I don't think she gives herself any credit for them. I don't want to hug her because I don't think either of us would appreciate that, but the thought is there.
I'm so intrigued to get a bit more info about what Barret's up to.

I'm fairly sure that shy of tackle hugging Sasha that really was the worst that anyone could have done to "improve" the situation. Props to medea and Lydia for making me actually snort hot coffee out my nose while laughing at that whole debacle. Oh Hamid, poor sweet Hamid. I'm so sorry your Dad can't do feelings. I've never wanted to give an imaginary character a hug so much as I did these last few episodes... and I literally work with teens and troubled young adults from emotionally abusive families that make his look loving and friendly. Gargoyles are clearly the best therapists ever. I want to be a gargoyle if I ever grow up.

So I've done improv comedy and I've done amateur theatre, and mostly the audience reactions I attempt to elicit are laughter. Though sometimes I've been in plays with different moods. It's sometimes a bit strange with this podcast, because the delay between recording it and people hearing it can be a while, and I'm never sure how well thing are going to come across. It means a lot to me that people are empathising with Hamid's difficulties, I put a lot in to the performance at times, and I love the responses it gets.

How could one not empathise with Hamid? He gets beaten up by fate (Alex) as life could not manage if it reall tries. I mean I do not want to hug Hamid, like a lot if the other listeners, but inly my relationship to hugs is similar to Sasha's but I do think Sasha should introduce Hamid to the Gargoyles. They seem to be capeable if comforting people. Or Azu starts an morning or evening ritual where Hamid gets a hug as long as he needs it.

And with Sasha's comment about 'the lines between what's dead and what isn't,' there was a definite moment of dread as I remembered that 'oh right, this campaign has a title, doesn't it?' I am very worried for everyone, in a very excited sort of way. Poor Hamid and his sibs. I want them to meet up with Vax and Vex from Critical Role and form an 'RPG characters with rich and awful dads' support group.

Loved this episode. I've always gotten a very 'Terry Pratchett' vibe from Alex's worldbuilding, and I wondered if he was a fan. After the bit with the gargoyle and the pigeon I'm now certain he is.
