OR: "More things in heaven and earth"
We stand on the cusp of things, the liminality of knowledge as John awakes from his coma. As he feeds, devouring knowledge, we have to wonder what has changed, if anything. As Basira asks - "What are you?" Is this season where we're going to find out? Do we really want to find out? Things are moving in mysterious ways and the team is not whole. 6 months is a long time to be gone and everyone is on edge. And we get the first meeting between Georgie and Basira - though we have to ponder why Georgie couldn't get hold of Melanie...
And what of these philopsophical zombies made real? Servants of The End? The Stranger? The Web? How many hollow ones abound and who do you trust when your own empathy level is complicated thing?
But, at least, the Archivist has awoken.
That's a good thing, right?

And what of these philopsophical zombies made real? Servants of The End? The Stranger? The Web? Great recap, as always! And I was wondering about the zombies as well. While the End seems obvious at first, the Stranger may just as well be the culprit. The familiar not quite right and terrifying once you notice and the effect the zombies had, completely alienating someone who was having trouble empathizing in the first place. Wouldn't have thought about the Web, though. Did you mean because they were so widespread around the statement giver? They didn't seem to have a connection, other than being hollow in the same way. I had to laugh when John started speaking like he did. Nice semblance to zombie movies (reminded me of Shawn of the Dead too, at the beginning when said zombie groan wasn't yet. XD) Also a very good job of including that unused muscles deteriorate, six month of not talking doesn't make for awesome voices. All the more exciting and clear to hear the effect of reading the statement. The more the horror showed itself the more his voice got better as well. Neat! I'm so worried about Martin and whatever he agreed to do! His goodbye to Jon sounded so final. Oh no! Now I'm also worried Martin is about to be recruited by Lukas for the Lonely! First Elias made him see why and how much his mother hated him and now his years-long crush is apparently still more or less dead. And all the friends/coworkers lost, bleak outlook for the future under the powers influence in general... Quick, John, if you want a cup of tea you need to remember who's the one always making you one! Wouldn't that be funny, though? Martin about to give in to forever being lonely and siding with Lukas and then suddenly hearing the news about John waking up and what happened. Martin: Gotta go - John needs tea! *already out the door* Lukas: wat o__o Honestly, though. Wouldn't the Eye be rather pissed about one of his minions getting seduced away? For all that it's mostly sitting about and watching (unless a power attempts a ritual) and works together/is friendly with the Lonely, that seems like a boundary not to overstep without repercussion. Right? RIGHT?! *has fingers crossed hard* Basira was great as usual! Good ideas and understanding. Getting him a statement was evidently what was needed, even though the dreamer came first. Does this mean the End is also kinda friendly towards Beholding? His Avatar got its Archivist back up after all. But ouch, Georgie. For all that she's right, ouch. And it was so thrilling to hear the change in status, Jonathan Sims, The Archivist. Can't wait to hear what else changed!

And I was wondering about the zombies as well. While the End seems obvious at first, the Stranger may just as well be the culprit. The familiar not quite right and terrifying once you notice and the effect the zombies had, completely alienating someone who was having trouble empathizing in the first place. It's interesting to hear which powers everyone see reflected in that story. I got a Lonely vibe from it because of the feeling of being the only person left and also the moment when she punches through a zombie and it's just canvas - nothing side. Reminded me of the statement last season where the guy saw masked figures everywhere. It was funny but also worries me. Jon's in a coma for six months and literally the first thing he does upon waking is cause fear? Totally don't believe him when he said he didn't mean to scare them. Yes, 1000%!
It sounds dramatic, but it seems like everyone Martin cares about abandons or rejects him. Even the rest of the Archive staff tend to dismiss him. But flying under the radar or being alone has worked in his favor before. He survived against Prentiss alone and Elias is in jail because he failed to consider Martin closely enough. I'd hate for someone who cares so deeply for other people to end up with Isolation, but I don't think it's a coincidence that Peter Lukas went to Martin first when he visited the Archive. Not only that, he thanked Martin for his advice and later said they'd do great things together. And now has him working outside the Institute. Not Basira or Melanie, both of whom proved they can take care of themselves in dangerous monster situations, but Martin. Ugh. Why couldn't Jon just wake up after Martin pleaded with him, like every other coma patient in every soap opera ever? Noooo, gotta wait for a nightmare from a Death Prophet. I know it's totally unfair to blame Jon for whatever horrible fate befalls Martin, but I do and I will. Good for her. Georgie visited Jon in the hospital often enough during the past six months to know Oliver wasn't a usual visitor. Then as soon as Jon wakes up, he's straight back into the spooky stuff. I want to give her a hug. He sounded mostly like the old Jon, but that zombie statement has me all paranoid. How do you know if you're the same person who went to sleep? You can't know. And now we're going to be picking apart everything 'The Archivist' says and does for the rest of the season.
