OR: "Vast distances"This was brutal in more ways than one. Two familiar faces reappear this week, and both look to put a lot of distance between themselves and their erstwhile companions. I'm guessing that given their fear of heights, the statement-giver didn't really "enjoy sky blue" after their encounter with the mysterious Simon Fairchild, though we caught a glimpse of some strange monster too - another creature of The Vast? Or just something that dwells in the spaces, waiting to capitalise? I don't think Julian or his mother will be travelling in any more cable cars to find out. And then there's Martin. Too busy now to spend time with John, it seems. Too busy on work for Peter (and good catch to those of you who spotted the change in Martin's attitude to using his name ), it seems. You can just hear the yawn of the chasm opening...

Can only agree! That was very interesting! I didn't think the Vast had or needed such monstrosities. On the other hand, who's to say this monster wasn't Fairchild in "true" form? As an avatar of the Vast, is he beholden to fall only down when he jumps? GAAAAAH, MAAAARTIIIN!!! Bye-bye hope, you fickle thing. So much for our shipping hearts! *wet sound of organ-meat dropping to floor* I guess that means Lukas won another Isolation follower? Martin saying goodbye to ever loving or being loved back? Damn you, Jonny! (Just kidding. We love you and your writing, even though you make us cry! Congrats on succeeding there. *sniff*) It probably wasn't hard to win him over. Telling someone who's constantly overlooked and/or dismissed you'll do great things together and treating him as the prime contact, even literally in this case, is bound to work well. Our Archivist woke up a bit too late. Also in a figurative way. That's the problem when you realize you need and want people closer only when they already moved on. One is the loneliest number...♫

On a first name basis with the monster who made his crew choose one of their own shipmates to sacrifice. Oh yes, everything's just swell with Martin. This will all go fine. One is the loneliest number...♫Very true. At least Jon's still human enough to feel loss? Actually that might make it worse. Why do I get the feeling this season will be like watching a slow motion train crash?
On a (happier?) note, the statement was excellent. Really chilling, especially when the cable car kept going up and up far past the point of its destination. Good stuff!
