I don't know whether to be pleased or upset that no one knows what's going on. Oneiros, you go for excessive intruigue, any thoughts?

Well, if this were Golarion, I'd wager that one of the Meritocrats is in fact an aboleth... Byron too... Probably Zolf as well.

It's a recognized problem! I'm seeking help! (Although Machinators Anonymous is probably not the best support group - think the bad guys group from Wreck-It Ralph ) I need to re-listen to a swathe of them before I start spouting wildly. I'm in no position for aboleth-level accusations yet...

I must admit that even after listening to a good chunk of episodes again for feats and backstory for Berries, I feel as though there is not enough storyline hooks to speculate from at the moment. Apart from sasha completely not being related to Barratt at all. There really is not much to speculate from.

I'm expecting we'll be seeing the party having to prove they don't (or prove they do, perhaps!) have very specific tattoos upon their bodies.
In terms of bigger picture intrigue, I'm guessing there is some weird link up between Byron's sister and Figgis of the 1000 yard stare ( a seeming lack of competence there despite some level of horrifying experience. That's intriguing in its own right.) but I couldn't say what that will turn out to be.

But what about the weird ring that Zolf had that might have been Sasha's uncle's?
And the mysterious Gnome lawyers and the hold they have on Bertie?
And what are we going to find at the end of the six clues? (For those keeping track; (1) a mysterious seed, (2) a shard of unfamiliar metal, (3) a key to a safety deposit box, (4) an origami swan with a message on it, (5) the name francois henry and the mention of certain parisian cafes (6) mentions of research at the university in prague)
There's so much to speculate on.

I must admit that I don't particularly feel the need to speculate on these, maybe just because it has currently been brought up once, and then sort moved along. For me it just doesn't need to be speculated on at the moment

Seems the clues point to a centre of technological innovation and to a place likely concerned with shadowy secret magics, which jives with what we think we know about the Simulacrum I'm sensing that if the meritocrats aren't entirely aware of what's going on, then they suck at figuring out what's going down right under their noses particularly in Paris and Prague. The other clues elude me. I chalked Hamids ring up to being a halfling, but it's equally possible that it's effectively a tracking device for the meritocrats (or many other options besides. I think we'll have to wait till it does something gribly to him!) The McGuffingham estate is probably worth very little these days, if Bertie spent all of his money on armour. I'm guessing these Lawyers are responsible for that in part. I don't know what he owes them, but it's probably lots more money. And clearly Hamid dropped out of university to become a meritocratic agent.

Oh dear. My natural inclination to distrust all NPCs is running rampant after that episode.
I suddenly feel that Sasha slipping a dagger or two between Colgate's ribs is the only sensible action. He does appear to be around a lot when things go badly wrong...

For some reason I've only just got access to the Intrigue Lounge. I'm feeling that I may have to listen again from the start before I start speculating!

The next NPC was equal parts my favourite and least favourite part of the podcast to date.

The feeling I'm getting is that Colgate and a few others who like to hob with their fellow nobs are having a secretive pet project bite them in the bum. The stiffed or allowed Edison to rip off the real designer of the Simulacrum and now a third party is doing a damned fine job ruining their plans via bombs, theft, and subtly manipulated crossdressing black sheep of the aristocracy.
I do not get the feeling that the attacks were orchestrated by the original inventor of the Simulacrum as the excerpts from the journal we have heard paint him as either not a sociopath or such a good one as to come off as seemingly harmless. Occam's Razor says that the former is more likely as such does not come off as the sort to bomb auditoriums full of people. This third party is either an acquaintance of the original inventor or someone else with a vested interest in the Simulacrum or the technologies used to craft the Simulacrum which have struck me as either buried secrets, the bleeding edge of innovation, or a mixture of the two.
I don't think the Meritocrats approved the Simulacrum. As stated above, the magitech used is clearly far, far more advanced than what the average person sees on a regular basis. Since the Meritocrats are, for all intents and purposes, in the midst of prepping humanity to either be really good servants with empty promises of future power or actually sticking to their professed mission, the level of technology allowed seems very deliberate.

Plus there's the one who got away (Jeremy, I think his name was?) down in Other London. A cats paw of the third party in this I would think.
