I highly recommend William IV - I think a lot of the Rusty Quill setting feels 1820's and 30's ish. Easiest way to tell: Alex - are your ports awash with gin such that aspiring engravers feel compelled to satirise the social situation? If so, we're William IV onwards

Given recent episodes I would just stick with: "The ports are awash."

Today I should hopefully have all five of my players in one room for the first time. We're going to work on completing character gen and getting an actual playable party together. It's all exciting stuff.
My fifth player has plumped for playing a gnomish bard. I've been content to let him crack on behind the scenes writing his character as he's a very experienced gamer, and as such I haven't seen it statted up yet. (As long as the character doesn't feature in James' Rejected Characters list I'm sure I'll be okay!)

Hooray for bards! And good luck for assembling the party!

The Bard and the Cleric (ironically!) were both too ill to make it. Oh well, we managed to get some good work done on the other three. Turns out our Magus went to Cambridge. I reckon I know which side of the Peasants Revolt (which is definitely going to be an event in the game) he'll be on...

The secret third, illuminati side, right?

The secret third, illuminati side, right? Revealing the illuminati as a force in my game is your revenge for me outing Brutor as a Meritocrat in yours, right? Next you'll be revealing that the big bad spider at the centre of my web of intrigue is an immortal and ageless Margaret Thatcher. Damn your bones, Alex!

my players would end up on the X Factor audition blooper reel. My voice is gift from the universe to humanity. It is a soaring symphony among a sea of discordant screeching. The reason we can never record is that my voice is far too beautiful for any electronic device to capture.

So after months of talking and thinking and writing about it, my game goes live tomorrow. I've got five PCs I'm very happy with (one of whom is played by RogueLeader, so I can't get too specific with my plot plans in public).
It's a bit of an event too - I plan on slow roasting a gammon and putting a spread of breads, cheeses and apple products on, with some beer. All in keeping with the setting - more or less!
I'm well excited to get my teeth into this game now. The setting is all sorted out in my head, and the stories are all just low-hanging fruit at this point.
Wish me luck!

The first session happened, several weeks ago now. It was a thing that happened. Four of my five players really enjoyed it but the fifth (my now ex) may as well have been on the moon which is unfortunate for many reasons which I can't really detail too much here. Suffice to say I need to recruit a new fifth player for the Roguey/ Rangery role, and for related reasons I'm now a singleton (which means another two long running games have ended for me as well).
The banquet idea was amazing, and having done so much character and setting prep the game ran super smoothly even around the fifth players difficulties.
So... Everything about the set up for the game was sweet as a nut, and I have to consider how I fit someone else in to my carefully crafter setting. My current plan is to throw myself into running a bunch of one shots of different games with a rotating and ever expanding roster of players as a form of auditioning.

Sorry to hear about the negatives. Focusing on the positives. Banquet is an awesome Idea! Definitely one to try when we aren't recording. (Recorded banqueting is basically just chewing with your mouth open to thousands of people.) Regarding your "auditioning" that's actually pretty much what I did for rusty quill.

I bought Fiasco yesterday. I watched through Wil Wheatons play through of it, and the level of engagement with crafting the story required is perfect for my purposes.
I'm also going to try out One Last Job (because Rogue Leader really wants to play it).
We're also going to try Atomic Highway, Everyone Is John, Dredd, and Goblin Quest. If and when the Story Jam app comes available I really want to try that too.

I find Fiasco is good if you get on well with the people playing and know that no-one is going to seriously throw a spanner in the works by screwing with the scene directions.
I should really talk to Ed about StoryJam too - will let you know if there's any news.
