This episode was spectacular! An evil childrens' book is a fantastic idea, and the statement itself feels like the kind of scary story that keeps children up at night. Plus, it had just enough about Beholding and the other entities to remind me how eager I am to learn more. I'm so excited that this podcast is back!!

I think these are cool and thought maybe someone here might too. Numerically balanced dice! These d20s are ideally numerically balanced in the sense that: - The average value of any pair of opposite faces is 10.5 - For each vertex, the set of five faces that share that vertex have values that total 52 or 53 (as close as you can get to an average of 10.5 across 5 integers) - For each face, the set of three three faces that share edges with that face have values that total 31 or 32 (as close as you can get to an average of 10.5 across 3 integers)
My former undergraduate research advisor was the one who found this numbering and he gave me a pair: I've been thinking of what kind of Pathfinder character these dice might inspire. A two-weapon fighter, perhaps, so I could roll this color-inverted pair of d20s together. Maybe a LN cleric devoted to balance and order. Maybe a mathematical monk. What unusual sources have you drawn character inspiration from?

Nice work! I liked episode one and loved episode two. I'm not really into history, but the way that these stories are character-driven makes them enjoyable for me anyway. The background audio really brings them to life as well. Looking forward to more!

Heh, well done planting the leyline idea! The opera showdown theory does imply that Kafka is a bit of a showboating villain, though, and the professors seemed to think he was more insane than vain. Unless his plan is to kill and reanimate everyone at the opera or something like that, and that’s why he might attack when it’s full of people.
Some GMs are definitely more willing to modifying their plans to hew closer to player expectation than others, but I think it’s usually a good thing when it can be done well. I’ve definitely been in games where players fixated on throw-away NPCs or low-level enemies, and those characters became more important and powerful to reflect player expectation. It’s strengthens the narrative from a player perspective when that happens.

Hamid's alignment is shifting towards Chaotic Opera-loving. He seems so much more committed to seeing the opera than stopping Kafka (or anything else) that I have to wonder if he knows something about it that everyone else doesn't.
Also, if characters take a psychic damage every time they break out of the setting, how much has each taken at this point?
> Those GMs out there, how would you go about handling this? Players, what would you prefer to see if you were LOLOMG?
Depends on the tone of the game. I wouldn't have much tolerance as a player or GM for this in a serious game or at a particularly serious moment. In lighter games it can be fun, but tends to derail progress. It's really hard to push people back on track, though. Poor Alex.

I recently discovered The White Vault. There are only three episodes out so far, but they seem very promising. It's guess I would call it an epistolary horror audio drama?

Hi forums! I just caught up with all of Rusty Quill Gaming and recently started a re-listen to Magnus Archives. I'm taking copious notes and trying to figure out if there's something useful to be gained by organizing them in a queryable structure of some kind.
I've been playing various tabletop RPGs for about 15 years and am slowly trying to develop enough confidence to start GMing more. I've been developing a modified Magnus Archives universe that will hopefully work out. Early trials using the Gumshoe one-2-one system have gone well. I want to try it using the regular Gumshoe next. RQG has made me really, really want to play Pathfinder too. D&D 3e was my entry-level drug when it comes to gaming, and RQG has reminded me how much fun it is to crunch numbers and play with detailed combat.
Anyway, hello! I'm a little bit obsessed with your podcasts.
