Hehe, thought so. If you don't mind me asking, what are your cats' names? Sir Pouncealot and Ambassador Cat (Please note his name is not "Ambassador Cat" as a designation - he is an ambassador whose name is Cat and also happens to be a cat)

Spoiler for episode 93 And the last episode shows that you have cats. I guess every cat owner experiences how working with cats in the room involves sudden petting-demands and cat-bum in the face. Always was with mine at least. Yup! Gotta say that section with the admiral was pretty much just a matter of transcribing a typical writing session if the cats are about and want attention

Speaking of cathedrals, it's not like we have previous testimony of shadow creatures beneath the most famous cathedral in the UK... Just clarify, Episode 63 was St Paul's church in West Hackney - not St Paul's Cathedral. I imagine the cathedral would have much harder to break into... www.achurchnearyou.com/st-pauls-west-hackney/Slightly less impressive than the cathedral

Also fun to think that, given this was June 2003, this is a 50-50 on being a statement delivered to Fiona Law, Gertrude's predecessor, she of the suspected-drinking-herself-to-death fame... Just as a clarification - Fiona Law was a research assistant, not the head archivist, though she did occasionally take statements. Gertrude was still the head archivist back then, and for a good long time before that.

I totally agree. If the party had gone "yeah nah" and left their memories would have been wiped. Mr Ceiling was trying to replace the meritocrats IIRC, so the consequences were pretty dire either way. Plus AIs aren't really known for their nuanced thinking - how long before it decided certain people were going to just mess up its steamlined system and deal with somewhat more permanently? Also, everyone seems to be forgetting that Mr Ceiling had decided and explicitly stated his intention to go to the Heavenly plane and kill the gods. I mean, even if he'd have been unable to, that's the sort of plan that trips a supercomputer into the "should probably be destroyed at all costs" category. Surprised Zolf didn't engage with that as, y'know, that's where his dude Poseidon lives.

I'm not really too sure what the difference between the $10 and $5 marks are, though. What exactly is a delux script for TMA, is it just the regular script with horrible terrifying drawings all over it? The campaign notes are pretty interesting for RQG, though. Deluxe transcripts will be formatted as recreations of the actual statement, rather than just a transcript of the episode, and should hopefully include a few photos/small supporting documents as well. The $10 level also gets a few periodic bonus goodies - right now it's a page from the Magnus Institute Artefact Storage inventory and the RQG character sheets, but there'll be more stuff going up periodically

You're not wrong, but people generally have very different emotional reactions to animals then they do to humans. It's the same reason doesthedogdie.com is a thing. If I had to try and rationalise it I'd probably say it's because animals are often considered "innocent" in a way that (adult) humans aren't, but at the core it's just a common emotional quirk. It's not something that I've really examined in depth, but if you're writing fiction I find it's an important thing to bear in mind to avoid setting off the wrong emotional beats in your audience. Same principle applies to children - their suffering has a completely different emotional resonance to that of adults, and it's something you've got to be careful of.

I have, written down, a small list of rules for writing The Magnus Archives - they're largely focused on keeping it fun, escapist Horror rather than genuinely upsetting Horror. One of the rules is as follows: "If a dog, cat or other pet is introduced during an episode, they will survive the episode." While it's true I love cats & dogs, the real reason for this rule is that I know more than one person who, if a pet is introduced in any story and placed in or adjacent to peril, they find it really takes them out of it. They just get too worried about whether the animal is going to survive to properly enjoy the story. This rule is to make sure those people can still immerse themselves and enjoy the podcast.

2) You're killing me here, Jonny - there's no indication anywhere in the statement of a date or time. If there isn't further timeline chicanery in this case (Hilltop Road is the bane of my wiki-editing experience...), is it safe to say that the events of this statement occurred in the first half of 2013, using an average length of time between observation and statement? That is probably a reasonable assumption

Also, not related to this episode alone, but I am amused the American episode titles are different than the British titles. The American titles for this episode was "High Pressure". The episode title is "High Pressure" on both sides of the pond, it's just that Oneiros, who puts the episode forum threads up, likes to give them his own spin, rather than just naming them after the episode.

Sorry - your theories were facinating and thematically had certain resonances that actually I'm a bit sad I've mostly locked out of my plan for who Jonah Magnus was, but i didn't feel it was fair to let you disappear too far down a rabbit hole based on my unintentionally ambiguous pronunciation.
I love sprawling, intense speculation, but I feel it's only fair to make sure it's not based on accidentally inaccurate information

Just to clarify - it's Jonah Magnus, rather than Joanna, and he was male. Apologies if the pronunciation was a bit unclear.

Its going to come up in a very minor way later, but Цирк другого from ep24 is incorrect (in-universe as well as out) - the name is actually другой Цирк, as in ep44, and they are the same Circus. I apologise for the confusion - should have made it clearer

Hurray! Yeah, he says he's not doing anymore, but sometimes, when the stars are right, you might get a special new episode.
