I've been thinking about the shadowy Meritocrats and what we know about them.
We know they're all dragons, but I don't think we know how many. My brain seems to think there are 6, but I'm not sure. At least one of them is dead but no one knows: Ballas Moc, or Bolas Roc. Or Malice Rock. Hard to tell on audio. That meritocrat is the one for Portugal? Another of the Meritocrats is responsible for France and Britain.
They first came to power after Rome fell. Rome dealt with some dark magic and the Meritocrats decided to step in and right humanity's course.
What I don't get is how they are guiding humanity. Are they just ruling humanity (and the dwarves and halflings?), or are they providing them with magic or something?
Also, there are some people who work directly for the Meritocrats, like Oscar Wilde and Lady Starlight.
So many questions that I feel is quite critical for the backstory. Did I miss anything?

[Spoilers through Episode 66]Recent episodes seem to confirm that yes, there are 6 Meritocrats. -Bola Roc ( ) is in charge of Prague. His lair/hoard/Meritocratic HQ is in "Bola's Roost" (real-world Prague Castle) where he spends a lot of time "sleeping" --presumably to keep people from finding out he's dead. He was also the one in charge of overseeing humanity's magical knowledge, so it seems significant that he's the one missing when highly dangerous magical tech like the Simulacrum and Mr. Ceiling start showing up. -Guieve ( ) is in charge of Paris. They seem to be focused around major population centers. If I had to guess, I'd say the others are likely in charge of Rome, London, Cairo... maybe one in Spain? -They're allowing the colonization of the Americas, although colonists are facing steep resistance and Mr. Ceiling said something about "The Meritocrats don't want the Americas to succeed." -It's been mentioned that the Meritocrats are specifically focused on humanity, and less worried about the other races. Though since gnomes and halflings are pretty integrated with human society, it seems they get lumped in as well. -The Meritocrats seem to mostly handle things by setting up infrastructure/bureaucracy/government and letting that run itself, only intervening if something goes off-course. It does seem to be a very might-makes-right system. Everyone does what the Meritocrats say, because if you don't they're giant dragons who will raze your city to the ground. It's mentioned that Paris, at least, was previously razed "several hundred years" before Guieve's recent destruction of Eiffel's Folly. -Lady Starling and Oscar Wilde seem to be part of a special ops group or spy network, running operations and gathering intelligence behind the scenes.

There was a page about the world on the old website, it seems to have been lost on the transition to the new one...

I have a theory about whymthe meritocrats took over. . . Maybe Rome wanted to resurrect a Tarrasqe and use it to (or try to) take over the planet.

I have the theory, that since there are six meritocrats and the party has six locations to go through they will find one meritocrat in each location, since there was one in Paris and one in Prague. It just seems right.

There was a page about the world on the old website, it seems to have been lost on the transition to the new one... Are there any plans to resurrect that fabled page? I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking it would be a very, very appreciated thing... 😁

It would very appreciated to resurrect the page. Or we have to find our information here and discuss everything an speculate wildly. (Or do this and read the page )

There are no plans to resurrect that part of the old website at present, I'm afraid. The current plan, fingers crossed, is that much of the information will be revised for inclusion in any RQGaming setting supplement for the RP system we're working on.
