Dices can be just as pretty as gemstones. I collected a lot of stuff over the years, my semi-precious stone collection is the one that started it all and still grows, but pretty dices are always tempting too. What is your favorite dice? Color, shape? Do you own it or still need to get your hands on it?

My favourites are the dice that know. I have a set with an uncanny knack for rolling extraordinarily well when I'm trying to do technically impossible but narratively immensely satisfying things. Those are the slightly garish pink/blue/white/orange swirly ones in the image below. They are not my aesthetic taste, but there is no questioning their results! The others are just pretty. We're playing Rolemaster at the moment, hence D10s and percentile dice!

XD) And the others are pretty indeed, they look like Amber! ♥

I love my White and golds because Ben hates me using them on the podcast. They are almost completely illegible.

If I can force my sister to find our one set of dice (we got them when we first visited the US over 15 years ago), they're the dark blue with white numbers, with the stony look (like that 20-sided dice, 4th from the top right on the first photo). My favorite? d20 for sure. So many possibilities. I've seen a d100 die that looks like a ball. Not entirely sure how I feel about THAT many possibilities.

Blue/white is a nice combination! And I agree, the d 20 shape is always neat. Hehe, for playing the d100 seems a bit nuts, but it certainly is interesting! XD

I will try and take a photo of the favourites I have from my own collection at some point. I have a set of d6s that i really like and a couple of reasonably pretty chessex sets. I also saw these on twitter the other day, and they are so pretty. I want a full set of all of them.

Perhaps they role especially good stealth checks. I will come back with a picture of my dice collection soon, though I'm still very enamored with my pair of numerically balanced d20s. One is black with white numerals, and the other is white with black numerals. The idea behind them really pleases me, and the corners aren't overly rounded, so they don't roll off of tables too easily. I also love my set of 36 mini d6s. They're the Chessex festive green with silver pips, perfect for Arkham Horror, and very satisfying to arrange and rearrange. I have the matching polyhedral set as well for maximum feelings of completeness. Follow on question for anyone: do you know any quick games that can be played with dice, but are more interesting than simple games of chance? Something that would be good to play by yourself or with others while you wait for the rest of the RP group to arrive. This is the best I've found so far, but it wears out fairly quickly.

This is awesome, thank you! Just the kind of thing I've been looking for, plus I love the flavor of a mathematician-detective. As promised, I am returning with pictures of my dice collection. 1. All my polyhedrals. Balanced d20s on top, then sets, then random dice that I've accumulated over the years. That speckled d20 with the red numbers in the upper left of the random section was my first d20 that I originally got as an MtG life counter ~16 years ago. 2. My mini d6 set that I love arranging. 3. My mini d6 set again with its matching polyhedral set.

So these are my favourite D6s: They are made from amber, and possibly even handmade, as they're pretty irregular. I bought them at the top of a massive sand dune/hill that overlooked the border between Lithuania and Russia (Kalingrad). I was on a cycle tour holiday that was really lovely, and sort of emotionally marked the end of a really tough period in my life, so using them always makes me happy. I save them especially for damage rolls when Hamid casts a fiery spell. I have about 8~10 different sets of polyhedrals, but these are my favourite two: Both have a sort of swirled marble type pattern, which most of you are probably familiar with. One is gold and silver and one is black and green (the latter hasn't photographed terribly well). I tend to switch dice pretty often during a game though. Especially when some of my dice have been bad and I get to annoy Ben.
