OR: "All warfare is based on deception"Well, a quote from Sun Tzu seems apt today... The Archivist's footstep-following takes him to China, and the doors of the Pu Songling Research Centre, Beijing - a sister organisation to the Magnus Institute, London - and we learn a bit more about the world of Magnus, notably that looking into the works of these Powers is not confined to the UK. And thus we have a tale of one of the bloodiest events of Chinese history, 14 years of unremitting warfare where everything was a target for the military. Actually, just reading about the concept of 'total war' is somewhat horrifying, and Charles Fleming's account suggests that the frenzy of battle here may have had more stranger influences than mere fighting. No doubt the trail here leads back through the statements to MAG007 (The Piper) and the tale of Wilfred Owen. The stream of dead stretching out behind is a very powerful image, redolent in legacy and inevitable hunger... So, where to next for the Archivist? Since this wasn't what Gertrude came to examine in 2014, what was she looking at, and where did she go next?
