Holy crap! Why would Gertrude be after Leitners? If it was for the archive, Jonathan would know about it being in the archives, surely?

Oh, wow! That's a great catch!
Hmmmm, Dominic Swain felt that simply giving Ex Altiore to Gerard Keay "wouldn't count". So whatever curse is passed on via these books, it only affects the legitimate owners. You have to have paid for it. Once you no longer own the book, you're no longer affected, as evidenced by the way Dominic immediately lost the scent of ozone and the feeling of vertigo. But if grbookworm1818 was really Gertrude Robinson and she bought Leitner's copy of The Book of Solomon, maybe that's what put her in peril in the first place? The books all seem to carry curses based on their content, and the majority of real-world Solomonic texts are all about goetic magic; magic performed through the summoning and binding of demons with the holy names of God and the angels.

I'm calling it - if the Book of Solomon ends up in the Archives, I will be 1/3 of the way to changing my username ;P 1) I have no idea if that's even possible on proboards 2) Don't you dare change the story now, Jonny. It's worth noting that this book was sold about a year before Mary Kaey's... murder? Sacrifice? Also worth mentioning that Jonathan makes a link between the "Lightless flame" in MAG12 and Asag - a Sumerian demon. Edit: 1) Yes you can, and I've put a cryptic memorial to this guess in my signature to remind us all

Given the general mess the Archives are in, I wouldn't be surprised if it's hidden. Things tend to go missing (and mysteriously turn up) in artifact storage fairly often. If GR is indeed Gertrude, which I'm convinced by - 1818 is when the Institute was founded -then I imagine she'd have squirreled it away somewhere because she either bought it to prevent it falling into the wrong hands or for her own private use - which I wonder about since otherwise the curse that seems to follow these books took a while to catch up with her. DoctorTOC has mentioned the connection between the biblical King Solomon and his ability to bind demons (is that another M.R James reference? I wonder if I see them so much because I can't stop looking for them) and cannonlongshot has bought up Asag. Connection to the red book that turns up in First Aid?

Here's another unpleasant thought. Mary Keay's skin was found cut off in sheets, written upon and hung up on fishing wire...to dry? Was her skin going to be bound into a new book?

Almost certainly, although I'm not sure why it had been written on. I assumed it was going to be used for that custom binding Leitner volumes have, but it seems like something else was done with it instead.
grbookworm1818 is a great catch. I feel like I'm still not paying enough attention to the small details...

and as a quick addition:
" an incredibly detailed painting, with intricate patterns and symmetry " (from the wiki)
are we talking fractal detail and intricacy here....

I was relistening to this episode and had noticed the GR in the eBay username might stand for Gertrude Robinson. Sad that this is old news.

The moment of revelation you get when you put two pieces together is one of my favourite things about the series, tbh. Don't feel sad, be glad you got a chance to experience it!

Now that we have Sectioned officers, couldn't there be pictures of Mary Kaey's skin in evidence? That way the Sanskrit could be translated, if the images exist.
