Ah, the thrill of finding a possibly rare book, underpriced in a charity shop. Even if it is in Latin.
And appears to be on the Magnus Institute's watch-list of a bothersome bibliophile's literary legacy. Is that plot I spy?
The vertiginous woodcuts were a very nice touch, I feel. Plus the amount of effort that's gone into grounding each episode/statement is excellent.

I haven't been my usual active self here the last week or so due to some horrendous drama going on in the health and well being of someone close to me, and the repercussions on me have also been reasonably intense.
Just wanted to say I loved the last couple episodes and am greatly enjoying the writing.
I'm still here, and still listening!

In the long term I'll be okay. I'm not sure my S.O. will be.
I'd love to rant and vent a little bit more and clarify things, but I don't think this is the place for that right now while events, as they do, continue to unfold. Thank you for the good wishes though!

I was rather pleasantly surprised to hear a mention of MacGregor Mathers as a previous owner of Ex Altiora. Samuel Liddle MacGregor Mathers was a Victorian era British occultist and founder of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. I love knowing that the writer has done his research :-)

Now that is interesting - I always Heard it as belonging to "MacGregor Mathers and Jurgen Leitner", and not "MacGregor Mathers, and [then] Jurgen Leitner"...

Oh... darn my poor memory, I should have remembered about MacGregor Mathers. I did study a bit of History & Philosophy of Science at uni, which naturally covered Victorian occult societies. A link to the Hermetic Order also draws in, of course, Aleister Crowley (though this may be a complete red herring).
As for research, Jonny is nothing if not thorough :-)

One curious thing occurred to me when I re-listened to this episode today. Has anyone else noticed the faint hissing sound that occurs whenever the name "ex altiora" is mentioned during the reading of the statement? Oddly enough it doesn't occur when Chief Archivist Sims mentions it outside of the reading of the statement. Also, the feeling of falling puts me in mind of MAG 21, and while the book Mary Keay shows Dominic Swain is clearly the one recovered by Gerard Keay in MAG 35, I'm also wondering if it's not The Bone Turner's Tale from MAG 17 (based on the twisted nature of the bones that fall from the book once it has passed through shadow). Time to check the timeline 😊

I did notice in the most recent one (MAG 37) when Martin opens the door you can hear background noise from the Institute. that has made me re-think about going back and listening to all the Archives with decent headphones and in a quiet room. find out what little noises we are missing.

How on earth did we miss this one? The buyer of The Book of Solomon had an ebay account called grbookworm1818. Huh, those numbers seem weirdly familiar, I wonder if... the-magnus-archives.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline... oh. Well, this is interesting. If the numbers aren't random, that's a pretty strong indication that someone within the Institute in 2007 was on the lookout for Leitner tomes, 12 years after the official position was that the library had been destroyed. Interesting... Note: I'm slightly worried about the impact this series is having on my life. When I saw this, I had goosebumps for a good few minutes and my eyes watered a little uncontrollably. If I end up going crazy, I'm blaming Jonny.
