A literal delve for today's tale as the Archives unearth a subterranean sorrow.
Again kudos for presenting something that's both heartfelt and disturbing - and for very clearly capturing the feeling and reasoning for why caving/potholing is never going to be my kind of hobby!

oh my god! I loved that! this hit so close to home for me, I've been a Caving Instructor since I was 15 (sadly I haven't done it in a number of years) but when I used to do it I must have gone 6 or 7 weekends out of the year.
So perfectly described, the caving and also some of the feelings you get when you are that far down under the earth. like when going through a squeeze and just being able to feel the weight of all that rock above and below you, and the small amount of panic you always get and just cant control when cave diving or doing a free dived sump (a water passage short enough to do without scuba gear). please tell me you either know of a caver or go caving yourself because you cant just imagine those feelings. I am so thankful I don't have stories like that while caving (I mainly used to take party's of 5-8 scouts to get their cavers badges) so I never had proper lonely moments on my own while caving. There would be team trips where we would do a lot more interesting and fun caves but again we would be in party's of 5-8 never in a party of 2!.
My hat (or in this case caving helmet) goes off to you guys for this one, this was brilliantly written and the music behind was so intense my heart felt like it was going to jump out my throat! well done!

I loved this episode! But I have one question... does anyone have a clear idea of what the mystery whispery voice was actually saying in the recording? I couldn't catch it, even though I listened twice, and I really want to know!

I couldn't catch it, even though I listened twice, and I really want to know! If you did hear it properly, there's good chance your hair would turn white, you'd projectile vomit thick green goo and then your tongue would fall out, while your ears try to turn inside out to forget what they heard.... Is it me, or did anyone else get a flashback to 'The Descent'? dark places; always a good call for spooks. Humans rarely go there, so spooks have a chance to live undisturbed, go about their spook business, send their insubstantial kids to spook schools.

She is saying "Take her, not me" over and over again.
And to answer your question samanthae, I've never been caving, nor do I have any intention of doing so (researching this story has fully convinced me not to ever). I made a friend who did caving a while back and mined them for details, but the rest was just research and imagination/dark inspiration.

She is saying "Take her, not me" over and over again. Ooooh... that makes sense. I love how this story invokes the sense that there's so much other stuff going on...

this episode freaked me out so much.
I forgot how claustrophobic I am, I avoid any situation where my claustrophobia might come into play, but it took about 30 minutes after finishing listening to this episode before my heart rate steadied again.
The description of the 'squeeze' *shudders*
great episode, will not be listening to it again though lol.

This one was written so perfectly! Really captured the abject fear of being trapped -- forget the supernatural! Well, we never can forget the supernatural...

This episode has always been the one that hits me the hardest. So good! I was giving it another re-listen (yes, three more days IS a long time to wait for S2), and there's still one thing that's a bit unclear to me, possibly because I know nothing about recording technology and can also be *slightly* obtuse. Is the "Take her, not me" audio present for the full 2.5 hours of Laura Popham's videotape, or is the Archivist sampling from something of a shorter duration that only accompanies the dark portion?
