...reveals something a lot more sinister is going on. And I thought the close of last week's episode wasn't going to make my jaw drop any further. This was another real humdinger of a body horror ep - my skin is still crawling. Well, at least we found out what happened to Martin, right? The references abound here but it may be worth listening to Episode 6 ('Squirm') again, if you can stomach it... And serious kudos goes to spooniermist for some very astute guesswork as well as Samwise for revisiting File #6 earlier this week!

Oh god the sound work in this one, the squirming worms! so good!
From what Sims has been saying about Martin, I imagined him a lazy, layabout, lout who doesn't give 2 tosses of a dwarf about the institute, but he was adorable! and loves working for the institute. I hope John now sees Martin as a important member of the team now. I'm so glad he's safe and ok.
So happy when I heard Jane was apart of this one! and to think we hopefully will have a statement from her coming at some point, that's so exciting! So my query is, does Jane also have power over spiders as well as worms? what's her connection to File 16 and Carlos Vittery? (more than just living in his basement of course) Also how did Martin get some of the worms, if that is what he threw onto Johns desk in File 21. And if there are some of her worms in the Institute, does that mean she knows where it is? and can she now get access?

Woo for guesswork! I've gotta say, I like how this has linked two separate stories together (Squirm and Arachnophobia), the link between them is interesting to say the least! The sound work was great on this one, both for the gloopy sounds with the worms, but also Alex' portrayal of Martin. It came across really well and was convinced that he was a bumbling inefficient buffoon! So my query is, does Jane also have power over spiders as well as worms? I'm not sure. The ending of Arachnophobia and this episode got me thinking: what if Carlos being wrapped in silk wasn't a spider thing, but a worm thing? There are silk worms that spin silk like that, is is possible this is what was around Carlos? If not, it's a strange coincidence that Jane was in this location. There doesn't seem to be any link between these statements otherwise. I mean, Arachnophobia had a seemingly immortal/recurring spider that tormented Carlos, but the worms seemed more like a parasite... It's possible that the even with the immortal spider was actually in Carlos' head, I suppose. Still not sure how they're linked, but there must be something. Also how did Martin get some of the worms I wondered that as well, surely if they were alive they'd all be in trouble now, and Martin wouldn't have been stupid enough to bring live worms in, so I'm assuming he brought one that he mushed. And if there are some of her worms in the Institute, does that mean she knows where it is? I also wondered that. I'm not sure we've had any evidence that there was any psychic connection between Jane and her worms. If there was some connection, I'd have thought Jane would have known the second Martin squashed one of them. I get the impression that she sees herself as inhabited by some sort of demon (wasn't there mention of her being a witch, or thinking she was)? If so, it's probably more like they're her children, in her eyes at least. I'm not entirely unconvinced that Martin's been infected. Would explain why she randomly gave up one morning. Oh god it's SO GOOD! I can't wait for the next one! Hopefully Jane's case, and maybe we can get some insight into what she meant by the Archive's Crimson End (other than the obvious blood connection).

I'm new to the forums but have been listening for a little while now... I love how the files are starting to link together! I can't wait to hear how this further unfolds...
edit: I wonder if Jane Prentis was connected to the demise of Sim's predecessor as brought up in Dreamer? He certainly seems very concerned about Prentis and her capabilities.

I'm new to the forums but have been listening for a little while now... I love how the files are starting to link together! I can't wait to hear how this further unfolds... Welcome! come join us at the cork board, were placing the pins and connecting the string one episode at a time!
I had a theory but I feel im probably going to be completely wrong but hey ho *grabs tinfoil hat* lets go!
So we know that Jane is a practicing witch, perhaps she had a partner or a teacher she learnt from... perhaps Jane Prentis was Harriet Fairchild and Simon Fairchild is her partner/ teacher... her me out... we know File 21 (Freefall) occurred in 2002, File 6 (Squirm) occurred in 2014, File 16 (Aracnophobia) occurred in 2015 and and File 22 (Cult) 2016.
So in 2002 Harriett and Simon practice magic, doing things like the stuff that happened to Robert, how else do you describe that stuff if not witchcraft. Between 2002 and 2014 Harriett/Jane got possessed by a parasite, attacks a girl called Harriet, lives in a dudes basement then stalks Martin.
its just a co-incidence that Jane attacks someone with the same name as her previous pseudonym.
... I think ive officially lost the plot now, im happy to be wheeled away to a padded cell now

I love stalking this forum, you guys are incredible with your theories!!
So multilayered and creepy! Loved it, especially you Alex, I feel like Martin isn't actually a bumbling buffoon considering he 'survived' for two weeks - I think he may have been released so to let the Institute know that she was coming... And being offered a sealed room in the institute may not have been a kind gesture from Sims. I read it more like a damage control situation if he was unknowingly infected without panicking him.
...Sims is all business, so anyone who appears to have any human traits - to him may seem unprofessional and unbearable. He is so matter of fact... Unless he's reading...
I was talking about the 'voice' of the stories with my other half - When Sims reads the statements he takes on that persons experiences (a direction I really like) I'd like to think there's a strange power of empathy at play with a man that is so dismissive of certain claims once the papers are put down...

Oh, Martin. Bless. I adored the comment of "of course it was Martin" as if getting caught out by Prentiss was just another example of Martin's ineptitude.
That last text suggests that Jane and/or the "Flesh hive" have some sort of sentience left - the same can't really be said for <spoiler for new listeners> who shows up later.
