So, in the latest RQGaming thread (#41), Brave Sir Robin remarked on the infamous 'Red Wedding' from A Song of Fire and Ice, and it got me thinking about romantic relationships in RP games. There are the obvious tropes about ppl going adventuring for revenge due to death of their loved ones, etc but in my experience it's not exactly common for PCs (particularly starting ones) to have a family back at home or a partner or even to develop a relationship during play. Anybody have any stories - for good or ill - about characters they've played who have relationships or those in games they've run, that they'd care to share? (I'll add some of my own stories in later.)

My favourite ever LARP character had children. We designed the society so that children were raised collectively by elders, whilst adults were productive. It didn't directly impact the game in the end, but it was pretty cool.

My pirate Captain Sundra flirted relentlessly with an NPC paladin, slept with him once and then was stone cold to him afterward. He's currently buggered off somewhere bearing a massive grudge.
She has a massive family (I did a bit of a family tree for the GM), with lots of weird traditions and Byzantine politicking as well.

I frequently (these days at least) create characters with big families - plenty of siblings/parents/uncles/aunts etc. Because I love the potential hooks it provides for stories.

one of my face characters was a half ogre barbarian (min max) I know. Who was convinced he was a wizard and his mum didn't have the heart to say otherwise.

In an old campign we had a half mremaid fighter PC and a vampire sorceress PC in a relationship. It was generally good but the backstories of those two PCs along with another got too confusing for the story and ended up overthrowing the actual roleplay of any characters othr than those three. That campaign still features some of my favourie characters (both of my design and others') though
