I so need to invest in a corkboard and red string now that I cleared a wall in my craft room ...

Something I just thought of after my second listen to (still freaks me out hearing my name at the end!) what if the ritual that was done in that clearing wasn't done to hurt Gertrude? what if it was to protect her. We know there are people out there who want the best for the Institute (Michael being one of them) perhaps this shrine was created to protect Gertrude and the energy needed to keep it going is in the form of the burning that occurs. and after Jason Broke a bottle, Gertrude was no longer protected? The only thing that makes me think this isn't true is the fact that the incident with Jason occurred in 2009 and Gertrude died in 2015. ALSO we know the shrine could have been there from about 2002 because that's when the photo was taken of her... not sure how that helps. (spooniermist the Wikki says the photo was taken in 2010, I think that should say 2002 )

There's been a few times where I've wondered if people like Jane Prentiss are actually against the Institute, I mean, she just seems to be observing, and she's mentioned the archivist's "crimson fate", I did wonder if she's just waiting for something, and Jonny is playing us like fiddles.
