Well, we celebrate #BuffySlays20 in our way here at Rusty Towers, with some missing pages detailing the return of Trevor the Vampire Hunter whose reported death appears to have been greatly exaggerated. And not only that, but the threads are crossing yet again as he encounters a lady who might best be described as 'husky'... *shudder* I have to say, on a personal level, WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE SPIDERS?!?! *ahem* Sorry about that. But coming straight on the heels of 'Pest Control', I wasn't expecting a double dose of bug horror A great statement, the obvious contrition for Dupont's murder despite some possibly dubious reconciling on his part, I feel puts a really nice spin on the 'unreliable narrator' aspect of these stories. And I don't think that we can really be surprised that he has crossed paths with other supernatural threats, though when he said that her skin was wriggling I was bracing myself for it to be Jane Prentiss. But nope. We have *another* 'entomological emissary'. But the reappearance of Trevor also dovetails the investigation with that of Martin and his supposed lies... and lead to a fantastic supplemental. So, where do we go from here?

Some of Prentiss' words come back to me - "Webs have a song too, of course, but it is not the song of the Hive..." The scariest part of the episode is Jonathan's behaviour in the statement - bravo, Mr. Sims! Anyone else concerned that some researchers are discussing a man as being dead who isn't - maybe it was less a statement of fact, and more a command to other members of this shadowy organisation? I'm glad that Trevor came back, and I'm wondering what made him a deal to give him more time to fight the occult? He says it's a "shame [he's] on the way out", maybe the young lady he was accompanying at Ivy Meadows gave him a new lease of life somehow in exchange for his experience? I'm also wondering if Dupont was really as innocuous as he seemed - we know that the criminal underclasses consort with dark powers, maybe Dupont took a vow of silence in exchange for some dark power? Is shock really the reason Herbert reacted how he did to Dupont's scream? "I'm sure I don't have to tell you that winter is a hard time to be homeless"... empathy on Gertrude's part, or is the flat Sims found a fake? #CrazyTheoryOfTheWeek Also, clearly if I'm half as right about Martin being evil I'm more than twice as likely to be right about the rest of the team being evil. Stands to reason, dunnit?

A particularly good one this week, I think. I wouldn't have liked to be in Martin's shoes at the end - Jonathan's paranoid wrath was even scarier than the archive's statements!

"I'm sure I don't have to tell you that winter is a hard time to be homeless"... empathy on Gertrude's part, or is the flat Sims found a fake? #CrazyTheoryOfTheWeek Pretty sure that that's just a remark about being homeless in winter, without much more beyond that. Even crazymode-Sims would understand that. In an unrelated note, could we discuss how the title for this one is Children of the Night? "Listen to them, the children of the night. What music they make!"

I had an argument with Jonny about the title. I wanted "Ze Children of Ze Night" but apparently it was a terrible title. Then again, given the state of the Rusty Quill Gaming's feed its a fair criticism.

If it's any comfort, I'm reasonably certain that in that context, the is pronounced as ze.

So I've been relistening to the whole series, and in episode 16 (Arachnophobia), Carlos Vittery mentions that the spiders are eating silvery grubs which are in abundance in the building that he is in. Was Jane Prentiss kicking around there? Also: was Vittery's fate the first stage of transformation into a skin-web?

I think Martin found Jane Prentiss there when investigating MAG 16: Arachnophobia, see the-magnus-archives.wikia.com/wiki/MAG_22:_Colony

The spider women totall just reminded me of MAG 43, where it is mentioned in passing: *"Alice 'Daisy' Tonner [sp?] was her partner at the time and had also been Sectioned due to spider husks (possibly human sized)."*, maybe it was this!

"I could never work out if it was the husks of people-sized spiders, or the spider-like husks of people, and Daisy never seemed like she wanted to clarify. I'm sure she mentioned vampires, once, as well, but I think she was joking. Probably. Maybe..." I hesitate to call a connection confirmed, but given that all the vampire reports we have are from Manchester, I do wonder if Ms. Tonner recently got reassigned... (Also, it's totally Tonner, not Conner, as I had on the wiki...)

Yikes.
Two thoughts- Albertus magnus was supposed to have built the first automaton seven hundred years ago. If he never stopped, or his work was carried on by some kind of secretive institute, how sophisticated would they be by now? Could there even be an evolutionary race going on, with all different sorts - the ones that lure tax collectors or drunk students, the ones that freak out anatomy lecturers, the ones full of flies and spiders and worms (oh yuck. Where s the butterfly hive, or the kitten turner?).
Second thought; he mentions here he saves a young woman from being vampire d, and i wondered whether, if it was Trevor at the fire at the old people home, maybe she was his partner there. That person had shaved hair, which made me think of the sailor, and a scar, which made me think of either the lady from episode three, or the lady who gets stuck in a creepy cemetery after crashing her car. But i got confused by all the names so i wasn't sure.
Anyhow, such a good show. Six seasons and a movie...

Oh my god, why isn't there a Kitten Turner! Although, actually that sounds horrible: someone who can twist and bend kittens? Gross. Also, Henry, there's a wiki if you're having problems remembering names (or want to search for butterflies across the cases) here: the-magnus-archives.wikia.com

There will never be a kitten turner. Johnny is absolutely mad about cats.

Yeah, maybe i didn't think that one through. But a Leitner that you pass under a lamp to produce hamsters would be good.
