I've been setting up a Trail of Cthulhu game with friends, and have really been drawing on the miasma that is the Magnus Archives for inspiration. I've already got filled seats, so this is more me just updating anyone who is interested on the progress of the story, as well as to gather suggestions.

While there will be migrants from the Magnus Archives, the decision of the world and time was made by popular vote, and, rather than being in London in the present day, is in Soviet Russia, in the 1950s. As for our cast, we have:
The German Alienist (and deserter) The British Scientist (and present orphan) The Russian Professor (and former Inmate) The Russian Artist (and former Factory Worker) The Russian Police Detective (and former Commissar)
All of whom are working for the MVD (Internal Affairs).

I'm gearing up to run the first session of the ToC game, and have been making changes to make it more approachable, mostly by switching which nefarious god's cult is doing things just beyond the doors of perception. I've decided on using the cult of Yog-Sothoth, as Yog-Sothoth is a great gateway god.

I started off this campaign with a simple murder, nothing too rough yet, just the question of: "How did a person who died last night become a desiccated corpse?" So far the players have not done too horribly, besides accidentally removing the head from the corpse, due to them really poorly describing how they were moving it.

The last session ended with them discovering a little black book in the dead woman's apartment, and the most recent session has proven that you can give players a contact book, and they still won't open it up and read it. The investigators went to the morgue to study the body, which they had accidentally decapitated, got into an argument with the rest of the team, and were then put on the trail of another body with the same MO. After they did a cursory investigation of the crime scene, and finding that everything was exactly the same as the previous one, except for the body, they realized that they were being watched, and began shadowing the shadowers. We'll see how this pans out.
