OR: Reasonable Grounds for SeparationWell, I think Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman said it best... Extreme circumstances are often grounds for self-reflection and a time to clear the air. Clear the decks. Clean breaks and clean sweeps. And verily has Zolf found himself adrift on sea legs as of late - so I don't think any of us can begrudge the decision he has come to here. And I think we can agree that Bertie may be the extremest of circumstances. So, what do you think? Do you think Zolf was right to walk away from the Rangers? Should he have stayed to hash out his issues and steer the Rangers back onto an even keel? How DO you solve a problem like Bertie? Has this sort of thing come up in your games? Party cohesiveness is a difficult topic, particularly when their are strong personalities (both IC and IRL) at play. But, at present, we shall say "Farewell, Zolf Smith! Wherever you do sail, may you find renewed faith, in yourself, at least, if not in Poseidon."

For one glorious shining moment I finally thought I had escaped Bertie but no.

Er, has Sasha's main protection against her degenerative magical disease just gone off to find himself?
She may wish to mention that to Hamid at some point...

Zolf, I feel you. Line management is just not all it's cracked up to be. There are some very good courses in Managing Difficult People out there! Mind you, Bertie is probably the image in the dictionary next to Unmanageable.
It's not the first time a character has seemed to go - Bertie's side quest, that time everyone died... After all this has panned out and things have settled into whatever the new normal is, I'd love to hear a metacast talking about how you handled it. Unless they all sort themselves out next week, in which case it might be very short.

No! Zolf should have just fired Bertie! Bertie is trying to kill innocent people and how is the party supposed to get along without the level headed one. Plus the sweet mentor/uncle like relationship Zolf has with Sasha is my favorite part of the show. I also love his interactions with Hamud. T_T

Oh, man. I thought we had escaped Bertie, but no, it's Zolf that's leaving! D:
I can't really blame him, though. He's been pretty close to the breaking point for awhile-- it really HAS been a terrible month or two for him, and having to manage Bertie was just one thing too many. Also, attempting to murder one of your employees is generally not a good trait for a boss to have-- I think it's best he left to figure out his problems away from the rest of the group.
However, the party is definitely gonna need a healer, so I hope they're able to find some kind of replacement or get to a magical specialist quickly! Sasha's Magical Wizard Scurvy is very concerning. I'm also kind of curious to see if we find out more about Hamid's backstory, or if he might at least consult some of the wizards in Prague about his own magical transformation.
It'll be an interesting thing, though, recruiting a new party member-- they're on a super-secret mission with a lot of very important information. How do you determine how much to tell a newcomer about the Simulacrum, or Mr. Ceiling, or the rest of it? With all the subterfuge going on, and now this information about the Harlequins and other Separatist groups... seems like it would be hard to find someone else trustworthy enough they'd feel comfortable sharing secrets with, but this is a mission it'd be hard to complete unless everyone is on the same page.
Man, I'm really glad episodes are back to a weekly release. I don't know if I could handle all this suspense otherwise.

I listened to episodes 65-66 all in one go this week, and my heart is a little bit broken now? Which is not a complaint, I think this departure makes complete sense from a character point of view. But still, I will miss Zolf, and I wish him safe, low-stress travels.
What to do with a problem like Bertie is such a conundrum, and I look forward to seeing how it all gets resolved (or doesn't!) as the campaign goes on.
