OR: WTF? RIP TLR (WSWOTN)And so, with Brave Sir Robin 's long-stored announcement, we find out that he has been working on the name. And so we welcome... *sigh* LOLOMG. Though the pin-drop moment for the acronym was absolutely beautiful. Even in the midst of Zolf's departure there is mirth And so begins the long, arduous search for a new member. I mean, it's not like you can wander into any old Temple of Artemis and just find a potentially appropriate candidate... Although I wonder how any new party member is going to fare with Bertie - the ultimate initiation test. The calling on the alumni network conversation was priceless too. So, now we're in a city that favours Hamid and we have an unexpected sighting of his sister. Does that mean some more backstory is incoming...?

I love the bit where the characters are all just calmly discussing the new name, whilst Alex can't stop laughing.

The name drop WAS pretty fantastic.
I also really enjoyed the Artemis medic. "Have you tried... walking it off?"
Looking forward too to seeing just how badly Bertie got fleeced by that gnome. He's probably got like a dozen potions all slightly past the expiration date and threatening spell failure or something.

Does that mean some more backstory is incoming...? I think I may have inadvertently let slip a tiny bit of previously hidden Hamid background in this episode. I wonder if anyone noticed (or if it was even new, it's hard to remember after 66 episodes).

I thought that had come up before, but that may just be that he hadn't finished university and I extrapolated. In the Exposition Box? ETA. It was in episode 19!

I'm still teary-eyed over Zolf leaving, but I can't wait to learn more about that goblin! Though if the party collectively gets much shorter, we're going to need a magnifying glass to see them. The name reveal was magnificent

You are correct, that was the thing I worried about, but I definitely had said it already in an earlier episode.

I had to pause the podcast at the name reveal so I could finish giggling.
Nice to see some of the other "cults" mentioned - so we have Poisiden, Artemis, Aphrodite and Apollo thus far.

I kinda assumed most of the major Greek pantheon have temples/cults/followers around, if the religious practice stayed mostly the same through the Roman empire and onward. Personally, I'm curious about what other pantheons are around. Clearly Judaism/Christianity never really gained a following in this universe, and probably not Islam either, but I wonder how the Egyptian pantheon is doing, as well as Hinduism/Buddhism over in Asia.
Re: Hamid's stay at university, I was wondering-- he said something about being an "associate student member" of the Prague university, but he studied at Cambridge? Is this a real-world Europe thing, with universities networked together, or a specific magical world thing?
He also mentions that they wouldn't know he'd been kicked out because the records are down, which actually makes me wonder how recently he was kicked out. I was assuming it had been awhile, but maybe it was more recent?

I was assuming it had been awhile, but maybe it was more recent? Religion is complex. Mostly due to the history of Rome. So remember, in this world Rome was the big bad, and had a twisted dark version of the Roman pantheon. That impact means that Greece was seen as the ancient height of civilisation, and other cultures have been reinterpreted through that lense. And cultures that stood up to Rome have gained additional cachet too. Monotheism never takes off in a world where a multiplicity of gods are demonstrably extant and influential. Hamid has travelled to prague before, whilst a student. I believe that there are reciprocal arrangements in the real world of 'you can use our library' sort of level, and you have to apply for it? But I'm not certain. This was an example of me basically riffing to speed up the party towards the action, and Alex accepting my offer. I don't think it has come up, and I don't believe it's crucial, but he was kicked out a couple of months before we meet him in episode 1.

Makes sense. I was thinking mostly of geographical and chronological distance of other cultures in considering what other pantheons might be around. Though mostly I'm just fascinated thinking about how differently art history would have developed. The Catholic church was such a massive financial backer and political power influencing what kind of art got made for big spans of history, it's really interesting thinking about what other directions things might go without it.
It did sound a bit like Hamid was making something up to get out of teleportation fees, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a reference to something.
