I have a set of the Story Cubes - bought it in NYC but haven't actually gotten round to playing them

I've heard they're really good for inspiration and for triggering ideas!

I don't like Vin Diesel because he's a celebrity, I like him because he's a nerd - despite being a bad ass action hero with a terrifying voice. He has always been public about his love for D&D - he's on record as saying that the very first thing he did with his first paycheck from an acting job was go out and buy a set of D&D core books. Whilst filming Chronicles of Riddick he persuaded Judi Dench to play D&D with him - which is just inexpressibly awesome in so many ways.

The thing is, if you actually take a moment to really look at Vin Diesel, it's obvious how much of a nerd he is. 'Cause he doesn't actually look like a tough guy - he looks like a nerd's idea of what a tough guy look like.

oh no a necromancer has walked into this thread
My favorite sources of roleplaying shows other than rusty quill and Critical Roll have been the Jank Cast (they mostly discuss role playing but also have quite a few actual games up to listen to), itmejp's youtube channel (quite a bit of 5th ed D&D, Stars Without Number, Star Wars, and a smattering of some other systems), missclicks youtube channel (lots of stuff; the roleplaying is almost entirely 5th ed), and the Roll20 youtube channel (a whole bunch of really different systems. They're good about seeing the game through to the end as well)

Dan Harmon (creator of Community and Rick & Morty) has created a show on Seeso called Harmon Quest which is an ongoing campaign with comedian guests and a GM who looks the epitomy of a GM. The first episode is on Youtube ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cuqqHGpRDE) but you need to subscribe to Seeso to watch the others. First episode is enjoyable (in particular because it features Paul F. Tompkins who I sorta kinda idolize) but I cannot speak for the rest of the episodes.

I have to say I was disappointed with HarmonQuest - ep1 at least coz I haven't seen the rest. I think it suffered from the problem of being played for laughs and so the game suffered as a result. 'RPG as vehicle for comedy' was not what I was looking for. And the decision to depict the barbarian in the animated bits as stereotypically as they did was a significant let down.

Also found harmonquest a bit boring for the same reasons that oneiros says, however have been watching 'high rollers' from the yogscast, it's quite enjoyable and a 5th edition game that is done similarly to rusty quill, but done through a livestream and recorded (so there are some bits to skip through) however it is live on every Sunday at 5:00 pm GMT, and usually up on YouTube a few days later.

I discovered HarmonQuest last week and absolutely love it. I find it hilarious, even if everything is skimmed over very quickly. I found the rest of them on YouTube and they're worth it.
Who plays on the Yogscast? I watched one of their earlier series with Simon as a robot cleaner, but found it to be too much of them twatting around to enjoy. That said, I normally love Ye Olde Gamers, but not this time.

That said, I normally love Ye Olde Gamers, but not this time. This one is actually a 'normal' d&d game, not a short or a one-shot campaign. It has none of the normal yogs, but instead has Kim and Chris Trott (who actually create content) and the others are from behind the scenes (some episodes do have guests from the yogscast). Each session they do is a full 3 hour long session and is played (mostly) seriously, like all good RPG's games. I think they are level 6 or 7 at the moment of writing. Also if you don't like the normal streams, Mark Hulmes (the DM) does some very good Q&A streams and there are some very good horror themed one-shots with Kim DMing

I'm not a huge fan of Kim, but I'll give it a go, thanks for the heads up!

I wouldn't say its perfect but I quite like "D&D is for nerds". Very different tone to RQG and is much less about the story driven narrative and much more about punching fantasy characters.

I gave "D&D is for nerds" a try but honestly the players ended up annoying me. I felt like I was listening in on a session peppered with in-jokes that I wasn't privy to and they seemed more interested in goofing around than actually playing the game. That may be fine for some but it ended up annoying me and I unsubscribed.
"The Adventure Zone" is good but gets a bit too rule heavy for my taste, from what I remember.
There's also "The Glass Cannon Podcast" which struck a good balance between rules, setting and fun but nothing has hit the sweet spot for me yet like RQG has.
