Oh, and at higher levels and with a decent investment of funds, I know a way to give Bertie an effective ranged attack. A Belt of Mighty Hurling which comes in Lesser and Greater variants will allow Bertie to use his strength in place of his dexterity when making ranged attack rolls with thrown weapons. Thrown weapons already use strength for damage too. Then he picks up a +1 Throwing, Returning bastard sword. Throwing allows any melee weapon to be used as a throwing weapon with a range of 10ft and Returning makes the thrown weapon return to its thrower after attacking. If someone tries to run away, Bertie could break out his special Throwing Sword. I love this idea so much.

The generalist fighter tends to be a bit of a muddy mess. Too many mutually exclusive options fighting for attention means that decision making during combat often slows to a crawl. Also you end to have to many minor bonuses all over the place to realistically keep track of them all.

Almost certainly not a ranged weapon type of chap!

Noble scion flavour is nice but I suspect that James will tend towards all of the "scary Bertie" feats. The more we play the more often he is using intimidate (to hilarious effect). Definitely. Bertie is all about ego, showmanship and bluster.

Oh dear God grumbly! Bertie with a throwing bastard sword is utterly horrifying. You spelled "amazing" wrong.

Disheartening Display is something I dug up recently. It lets you further terrify enemies with a follow-up use of dazzling display. Also, there is a lot of material in the newest book I purchased. It should be up on the d20pfsrd in a few weeks but I can provide access to the copy on my google drive if you want a look. There are a lot of things for fighters in it and these are things that would be especially good for Bertie.

Disheartening display looks excellent. Shaken on it's own is not a huge bonus, but being able to increase it is potentially very worthwhile.
We might as well wait for the SRD - we're not going to level up quick enough to need to plan anything immediately.

Disheartening display does make dazzling a bit more useful.

The real strength of Dazzling Display is it's later modifying feats. Shatter Defenses is pretty darn good. Also there is more material in the latest book that really improves the base flexibility.

Excellent. It's so in keeping with Bertie that it's the kind of thing we might take even if it wasn't very good, but giving it stuff to follow-on is very good news.

Oh yes. This is my specialty, remember? I love putting together interesting fighter concepts with good mechanics.
