So a few people asked for the character creation brief I gave the players for the podcast so that they could crib some notes.
Sadly I wasn't able to oblige as the brief was lost to the mists of time.
HOWEVER, we are currently doing a massive database and website upgrade and guess what showed up in the shuffle!?
I am including here a slightly abridged version in order to avoid any spoilers. Enjoy.
NB// I had already sent everyone to the character creation page on the PFSRD.
We are using a High Fantasy 20 point buy for characters (there is a calculator on the page.)
Whilst everything you find in the SRD is up for grabs I will always steer you towards core classes and feats etc. This is because they are easier to play, more balanced and easier for listeners to engage with.
All characters need :
-A full backstory including at least:
-Occupation (or unemployed)
-Societal standing
-Friends/ family/ collegues/ bosses etc.
-Country of origin/citizenship
-A primary motive
-A primary fear
-A secret that only they know
-A list of societies/ organisations they belong to.
-A completed character sheet containing all allocated skill ranks, feats, attributes, equipment etc.
-A detailed physical description.
-A list of any story hooks you are interested in. Be creative I will provide you with all the extra contextual info you need ahead of time and if you give me interesting stuff I will work it into the plot.
You need to coordinate amongst yourselves for roles. I recommend at least 1 magic user, 1 melee fighter, 1 stealthy type, 1 talky person. Obviously there can be overlaps in roles but try to specialise to a degree so that you don’t get in each other’s way.
Later prestige classes are allowed but again, where possible, try to keep things simple mechanically at first.
Common is not a language. All the fantasy languages exist in addition to all languages in the world today. If you want to speak Welsh, Sign Language, Lip Reading and Dwarven, that is fine.
Please don’t make a backstabber who robs from their mates etc. all it does is slow the game and annoy people. Play a criminal sure, just don’t play a dick.
Pick a character you can actually perform as. Do not make a character that is so removed from your voice type that it won’t work. I am trying to make the RP side of things more immersive for the listener.
Do NOT turn this into a lads-on-tour campaign. That is all.
Obviously let me know if you want to play anything too controversial and don’t be angry if I veto it. Something like ‘Larry the lovable racist’ is NOT being broadcast.
I suspect it is a little less fulsome than people would like but this was genuinely where it all began. I also included some world info which I won't be including here.
One day, once I have a smaller work load I will try to make a backstory checklist that people can use but that won't be a long time given how busy I currently am.
