Just wanted to say, Lydia, that I rather enjoyed listening to your recent TED talk ( tedxtalks.ted.com/video/Why-we-shouldn-t-trust-certaint). But I can't have been paying that much attention as I can't recall any talk about daggers. Your talk lasted 15 minutes, and if RQ has taught me anything about you, then it is that daggers are invariably talked about. I assume a follow up talk will rectify this?

Yay! Anthropology and Science! I do not pretend to follow all of that talk (despite me affecting a sniffy attitude towards biology in times past), but some of it reminded me of The Black Swan.
Alex once said in a metacast that Lydia knows several subjects extremely well - I see what he means!

As a BMS student currently in my first year, I can't say how much that talk makes me dislike reading papers. Even first year student experiments show that level of change spoke about at the end.

I should point out that Lydia is currently out of the county and so won't see these messages for a long ish time.

Hey folks, thanks for comments on the talk! nice that it's enjoyed. I've been in Cambodia without an internet connection for a month, but it's nice to return to friendlyness. Sorry Doctor Payne if you didn't follow everything, I have a habit of talking far too fast. I'm not a scientist, I've just spent a few years working with scientists in various fields- mostly synthetic biology, a bit of health and big data. Andy- You didn't notice the daggers because they're very carefully hidden. Honestly, it'd be very out of character to just have them on display. Sometimes the sneakiest thing is to be very loud and wave your hands around a lot on stage. People never expect that. Seeing as you all inhabit the venn diagram space of liking me ranting, sciencey stuff, comedy stuff and podcasts you might be interested in a new science podcast I'm guesting in, which you can come along and see being recorded on April 6th, www.facebook.com/events/908237322607493/

I wish I could go. It's always a bit too much a logistical nightmare getting to London for me, and that's a little too short notice unfortunately. I noticed it was probably just the high speed talk that caught me out when I watched it a second time

Lydia can talk VERY fast when she is enthused. In fact more than once before now I have had to artificially slow Sasha's voice down when she gets excited.

you've really had to slow me down? haha I never realised. I'm told it's hard to edit video of me for the same reason. no pauses for breath.

Is now a good time to suggest that Sasha flows like Lydia's voice when she's really excitable and passionate about something and shouting it down a gravity well?

If you're already messing about with speeds, you should definitely speed me up when Hamid gets really excited.

I think we all already know what the answer is to that.
I mean, what else are editors even for?
