There are things that lurk in the darkness and the stormy deeps of the North Atlantic seem to be no exception. Almost like a perfect contrast to the airy spaces and lofty heights of previous statements (for ease of reference, the case The Archivist mentions is MAG 21: Freefall). Although, we could chalk this one up to a depth hallucination, brought on by incipient narcosis and poor light levels perhaps... Solid story in this week's statement - the role of a salvage diver sounds like it would be very interesting but the underwater dangers are very scary. Reports of decompression sickness are really not of the good. And, as ever, the supplementals give us much to ponder. What of the Fairchilds? Is 'Simon Fairchild' one of them or a pseudonymic charlatan? And what of Sasha and her trips to Madame Tussauds? As if waxworks weren't disconcerting enough already...

Hello? HELLOOOOOOOO!? *looks around cavernous and empty forum littered with discarded red string.* Huh. Spooky. We're all lost in endless corridors, looking for answers... This was a goodie! The unnatural hole with the perception bending hand felt very Lovecraftian, which I always enjoy. I have some thoughts about Simon Fairchild. I've listened to MAG21: Freefall a few times, and Jonathan says: Before he's interrupted by worms. The conman who went by Simon Fairchild, was that a name or just a pseudonym? I find it difficult to think that he's still around, and doesn't sound like he's connected to the Fairchild family, although I feel there's too much of the puzzle unseen. I've got to say, I hate the sea and being underwater. It always makes me feel really unsettled being so far out of my comfort zone, and this whole episode sent shivers down my spine. I had wondered about Madame Tussauds when Sasha went to it, and if the building was designed by one of the Robert Smirke crew, but I couldn't find anything about it. I suspect that it was just a nod to the listener that Not-Sasha is into waxworks, and that Jonathan is a little suspicious of her. I would really really like Jonathan to realise that Sasha isn't normal, unlike the normal trope of her not being discovered for ages and someone else implicated.

Oh! I also feel that the endless sea links to my UNCANNY DIMENSIONS theory, but I need to relisten to the case to confirm. My wife is sick, so I might not have time to update it until Monday morning.

Hey, I can't speak for anyone else, but I just happen to be rushed off my feet applying for training schemes over the last few days Signed, Not-Cannon Supplemental: I would really really like Jonathan to realise that Sasha isn't normal, unlike the normal trope of her not being discovered for ages and someone else implicated. Guess who's not going to believe him considering his increasingly erratic behaviour? Also, what do you reckon the odds are that the last thing Fairchild states is "Enjoy sea black"?

Also, what do you reckon the odds are that the last thing Fairchild states is "Enjoy sea black"? Oh shit, yeah! This! This is what I wanted to talk about! I don't think Fairchild said "Enjoy sky blue" in Freefall, I think he said some sort of incantation or invocation to trigger the events to happen for Robert Kelly, and I think he did the same in this one. I can't in my head get this to sound like "Asag" or "The Lightless Flame"... or "UNCANNY DIMENSIONS", although that would be hilarious if that's what he shouted to summon dimension-defying entities

"By the power of Lovecraft! I! Have! The! POWER!" Asag I wouldn't expect - all mentions of Asag have revolved around Diego Molena, I think, so I'm not sure he's part of a conspiracy as much as an isolated event... Demonic chant? Definitely. Lightless Flame? ... I live to be proven wrong

I've not set up a corkboard and red string(...yet) so this all may be a bit out there and unorganized. The description as the giant hand gets closer and closer reminded me a lot of the summary of the Ex Altiora poem/story- as it gets closer and closer, it appears larger and larger. Also, the hand could be linked in some way to one of the beings/creatures described through their hands (like the one Ivo Lensik's father described in MAG8 ("all the bones are in his hand") or the being in the corridors (whether 'Michael' or someone/thing else) in MAG47). (Also there seems to be some focus on hands in general but perhaps I'm just reaching.)
Also the older man in MAG36 who burns Ivy Meadows Care Home down could be Simon Fairchild (or, rather, the guy using the pseudonym).

To me, the giant reaching hand links all the way back to MAG1, Angler Fish, in which a photo of the alleyway linked to all the disappearances reveals the outline of an enormous hand. I do still think "Michael" and Ivo Lensik's father are related, but I think this statement has more to do with Ex Altiora, the sky that eats people, and whatever lurks in that alleyway than "Michael" and his corridors. On the suggestion that Simon Fairchild might have burned down Ivy Meadows- I thought the archivist referred back to Trevor the Tramp as a possible candidate, despite being dead? The hints in this show are frequently pretty tenuous, but I like to hope Jonny would have mentioned if "Simon Fairchild" had a thick Mancunian accent.

some reason I was reminded of a fishbowl, like Antonia was shrunken down and placed inside a fish bowl, and the hand was reaching in.
but I mainly believe the same as Spooniermist, that she was sent to a dimension similar to the one Robert Kelly (Mag 21 - Freefall) was sent to.
the pressure she felt would have been being shifted to a deeper depth, there's more pressure when there's more water above you. and perhaps the dimension she was sent to was just water, no surface... that's terrifying! at least for Robert he was just Falling endlessly, what would have happened if she was stuck there for any longer? the deeper you go the more compressed the oxygen in the tank becomes. so that amount of air you would have at 20 metres is about halved when you get to 40 metres. any deeper and I haven't a clue, I'm qualified as a deep diver but I haven't gone deeper than 50m and that was only for perhaps 5 mins of the full dive.
so we know Simon Fairchild has been used by an 85 year old man in 2002 (freefall) and then again by a man that looks well over 100 years old (this statement)in 2006. perhaps this is the same man from Freefall, however in the 4 years something's happened to him. we know he has ties with alternate dimensions, perhaps he spent the 4 years between statements trapped inside one, where time works differently so he aged a lot more.
P.s Also sorry for not getting to this sooner, I haven't had much time to sit down and listen to all these statements properly.

I could see this, but it could also be that the two people perceived his age differently based on their own ages. A 20-something looking at an 80 year old might say they look 100, while a 30-40 something might be kinder and say less? Also, not related to this episode alone, but I am amused the American episode titles are different than the British titles. The American titles for this episode was "High Pressure".

The episode title is "High Pressure" on both sides of the pond, it's just that Oneiros, who puts the episode forum threads up, likes to give them his own spin, rather than just naming them after the episode.

This was a tradition started by me for the RQG episodes - just a way to have some fun on the forums. In some ways it works better for RQG, as a way to make a different joke or reference than the main episode title, for Magnus it's harder, because it's not jovial.
