Time to hear from Gertrude once again as we venture forth with another veteran's tale. Egypt - land of mystery, magic and trope. Just what secrets do you hold for our Archivist? What guardians wander the repository riddle of ancient archives and subterranean stores? Can we expect an L-Space connection to the Library of Alexandria?

This was an interesting one.
I don't want to start on a downer, but I wasn't terribly convinced about the voice acting for this one. He definitely sounded like he was reading from a script, you could even hear him rustling papers and mis-saying something and correct it as if he was reading it. It would have been more human if he'd said "Backed by army, I mean artillery" as apposed to "backed by army artillery". By the same stroke, it did make me appreciate the cast up to this point much more, it's been flawless so far, which just brings out the flaws in this episode, I think.
Anyway, on to the content! There was a lot of build up. I think the backstory of the tank and the burning was well done. Not something that I enjoy too much (I like the mystery), but I appreciate the character development.
Super interesting that there have been past Archives. Like, really interesting. It opens up so many questions: are they all run by the same organisation that's now masquerading as the Lucas family? Or is there some destiny or something where there has to be a neutral ground of the archives?
It reminds me of some TV series that I can't remember (and won't state because it would be a huge spoiler), where the theme at the end was that the same events in history keep looping and they realise they have to break the cycle. Kinda like Dark Souls. Maybe there is always an Open Eye group, a Closed Eye group and the neutral Archives.
Speaking of eyes, interesting that the figure who approached Walter had a single lidless eye: maybe an agent of the Open Eye posse?
Another random thought: what if the ritual we saw of Gertrude in the forest in Scotland was possessing her by a previous Archivist? Maybe there's an entity in the archives...

OK this was a great one!
to begin with I thought it might have been going down the same route as MAG 7 (The Piper) as that was also a war themed statement. it was great to have another personal statement from the 'victim' and the guy just sounded so lovely, id love to sit and have a cuppa tea and biscuits with him!
then it took a different turn... turning into a statement about another possible ancient archive! how exciting!
what really struck with me is Gertrude describing the 'Singers in the dark I did a quick research about Serapea and I found a quote:
"Olympius heard the voice of one singing hallelujah in the Serapion. The doors were shut and everything was still; and as he could see no one, but could only hear the voice of the singer"
That strait away that reminded me of MAG 25 (Growing Dark) where Mark Bilham goes investigating Hither Green Dissenters Chapel. in that statement everything goes dark and he hears singers speaking a different language. also he feels the ground turn to marble and something stuck behind a cage.
the only thing that makes me think these are not connected is that the singers in Mag 25 sing about Ny Alesund. which is in Norway.. pretty far from Alexandera.
that is my crazy ramblings finished... I'm off to go buy more red string... I seem to have run out

I got the feeling the reason Sgt Walter got the same feeling of being watched was because something was inside the Archives from the Serapeum, perhaps a scroll, or as you say, a possessed Archivist?

This episode reminds me of the tv show 'The Librarians' - one library, librarians selected through the ages with the library being an entity of its own, but I'm probably playing with blue string and distracted by work/moving house stress. I do think that whatever the watched feeling is from is reminiscent of the watched feeling in the archive, perhaps its inevitable that a place that houses that much knowledge and esoteria will start to be or attract a certain amount of sentience. the Magnet Archives (sorry, couldn't resist)

I will be honest, I hadn't even made that connection until you brought it up, but it does make sense. Especially connecting with feeling the bars of the cage, which could very easily have been a grate blocking off an entrance. I also thought this was going to be in-line with Episode 7, "The Piper" and I was pleasantly surprised when it took a turn into the route it did. It also made me think of Episode 35, "Old Passages". Is it possible that Leitner was working on making his own Archive?

I liked and appreciated the double entendre of Crusader.

And the references to feeling like being watched reminds me of episode 12, which also has a lot of strangeness going on, though I can't fathom the connections!

I liked and appreciated the double entendre of Crusader. Triple entendre - Tank, Operation and Corpse! Got a distinct "Imprisoned with the Pharaohs" vibe from this statement - Egypt is a creepy place. Spoons, I was going to say exactly the same thing regarding *that series* - except I was going to quote it directly, so good job for stopping me! Also, is no one mentioning that Gertrude apparently has the contacts to have a small district of Alexandria exploded? Or that, if the statement was meant to be off the record, it's rather odd that she's, y'know, making a record?

going back through old statements (I wish I knew how many times I've actually listened to them all)
I noticed that In MAG 12 - First Aid, Lesere Saraki mentioned at the end of the statement that she feels like she's being watched. not threatened or judged, just watched. when the archivists tried to contact her again for a follow up she refused but mentioned again she still get the "watched" feeling.
Seeing as we know Walter got that feeling when he entered the Library, and again when he descended into the Archives... could these be connected?
going to look for more episodes where people mention 'being watched' which for a horror podcast is probably most episodes!

I'm sure Jonathan has mentioned this on more than one occasion, that whenever he's talking about the tape cases he feels like he's being watched.

The watched feeling seems to occur when one of the 2 cults are mentioned, in this case it mentions eye figures which I think is a safe bet to assume they are in some way an earlier iteration of the church of the divine host
