Well, was anyone expecting that? I have to say, as openers go, "Jane Prentiss is dead" is a pretty powerful one.
The red string web is very much set to thrumming today with a bunch of new threads as we hear the tale of a pest controller with some very relevant details. Some very nifty narrative technique here in using a statement giver who is just starting to make connections superimposed with us as listeners who have a little extra knowledge and can start to make other links with past information. I can think of several episodes that probably deserve a re-listen in the wake of this...
And is anyone else now wondering what the role of the ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control) is in all of this? They seem to have a lot of knowledge/experience in dealing with this kind of thing. I remember thinking about their involvement when they were mentioned back in MAG #6 (Squirm) and briefly wondering if it was relevant.

I'm fine with most bugs and other creepy-crawlies, but ants send shivers up my spine so you can imagine how deeply disturbed I was by the Bromley flat. A thought about John Amherst: The name sounded familiar to me when I first heard it in #0121911 but I had to Google it when I heard it again this time. Is it pure coincidence that he shares a family name with the general who suggested using germ warfare on Native Americans during the Seven Years' War? Maybe a clever reference from Jonny, or - given that we know the series often intertwines with real life history - some relation or reincarnation of the man himself?

That was a great episode, always nice to have the image of 'Flesh Hives' burned into your brain again!
Speaking of burning, it seemed odd to me that the people burned so quickly, I was reminded of MAG 10 (Vampire Killer) and how Trevor described burning the vampire woman as "she went up like dry kindling" but there was never a reference to the smell.
I'm also pretty sure we thought Trevor was connected to MAG 36 (Taken Ill) as Nicole ran into someone as she fled the hospital, which must have connections to this Episode.
EDIT: only a problem with my theory... vampires don't talk, and clearly the burning/smelly guys from this episode spoke.

Trevor's "vampires" did communicate, though. To someone who wasn't aware of the strange psychic effect they have wouldn't necessarily think to consider their lips moving.

I do enjoy the compilation episodes - Section 31 was the other one I recall!
Samwise, that's an interesting point - could be that reports of the similarities are what sent Trevor after them? He started out looking out for vampires, and if he heard reports of people going missing...

Second listen (and a tumble down a few other statements) suggests more than a few questions. Firstly, who is the neighbour that called in pest control on someone else’s house? Was this a concern from a cleanliness point of view, or a deliberate act of sabotage? We know that there are groups acting against Amhurst (see: Trevor Herbert). I also noticed the narrator slipped into present tense a few times when he perhaps didn’t mean to – “Was everything here unhealthy?” is a weird way to express concern that everything in some other place is unhealthy. Listening back to MAG32: Hive, it’s great to see the attention to detail that Jonny puts into his statements – Jane Prentiss’ overall impression of Arthur Nolan is a man with a “mouth puckered in disapproval”, and Jordan Kennedy seems to think he looks disappointed in him a lot. Now, time to break out the red string… Mr. Nolan apparently having a flame scar/tattoo puts me in mind of Diego Molena, the flame-worshipper who fought with Gerard Kaey and, to a lesser extent, Basira Hussein. Asag wypalać the Lightless Flame
As I’ve said before, it’s weird to see the similarities between MAG18 and MAG 36* (The Man Upstairs and Taken Ill, for those following along) in terms of the discharge that gets everywhere and ruins clothes forever, as well as the smell of rubber/tarmac, but I had a weird mental block where I didn’t remember off the top of my head how Toby Carlisle died, possibly because of the horrific sights that Mr. Rudenko reports seeing immediately after. It’s interesting to note that, in light of this connection being made between Amhurst and Prentiss, Toby Carlisle was found, dead, with a multitude of holes in his face and body… Working theory for now is that these are two branches of one phenomenon, in some way, and perhaps something went wrong with Toby Carlisle’s intereference. Perhaps some evidence for spooniermist and his linked dimension theory? *I don’t care what you say, Jonny, the fact that they’re both multiples of 18 is EVIDENCE and nothing will ever convince me otherwise.

We have been seeing quite a few more the fire worshipers/victims in the new season. Is the first book in Jurgen Leitner's collection Also Sprach Zarathustra? Or maybe Fahrenheit 451?

Ok, now time for my pushpin and red-string theory. These fire people (who I'm going to call zoros) seem to have some form of alliance, or at least non-aggression with the hive mind. While this would normally just be a case of "Oh, joy..." that got me thinking about how, recently, there was an episode concerning the Library of Alexandria: another archive, which was burned down. What if the reason that Gertrude was transferring files over to tape was so that they could more easily be copied and stored elsewhere, in case the zoros decided to attack the archives? At present, though, assuming that the Archive kept up its fire extinguisher purchases, they should be in a relatively safe spot.

What if the reason that Gertrude was transferring files over to tape was so that they could more easily be copied and stored elsewhere Funny you should mention that... I was listening to MAG 10 (Vampire Hunter) and Sims mentions at the end of the statement that the written statement was a photocopy, and the 'shark' teeth were missing, Sims goes on to say that there were a number of requests for this article from "the institutes government & law enforcement contracts"
it might not have anything to do with what you are implying, but does raise questions, could this be Section 31?

thanks for keeping me somewhat sane while i've been moving house and being stressed at work. I'm still listening and will chat more once life stuff stops interfering with my red stringing
