The crew take a little bit of a holiday from the main storyline to try and do some relaxing of their own, with renowned action movie star Jason Statham. As you do... Yes, the crew (sans Lydia alas) are joined by Mike LeBeau - our noble Head of Video and voice of Tim Stoker on The Magnus Archives - for their biggest task yet, as they try to ensure the actor has a jolly good time on holiday. At an owl sanctuary. In South Africa. Yup, it wouldn't be a Rusty Quill special without accents galore. And, oh boy, there are *accents* in this one, no doubt. Thrill, spills and very definite hijinks ensue as our valiant tour party have to fend off boredom and the actions of a dastardly nemesis, out to prevent a good time being had by all! And if you're interested, Jason Statham's Big Vacation is a One-Page Design from our good friend, Grant Howitt over at Rowan, Rook & Decard - you can pick it up as Pay What You Want over at their website! And join us for Part 2 next week...

I feel like if you made Jason into Archer from Archer, it would be really easy to integrate that world into this game. haha

And we're back with Part 2 folks! More hijinks, noble sacrifices and animals galore as the team tried valiantly to keep JS from plumbing the depths of Sadness on his epic holiday.
If you have suggestions for other games you'd like to see us do as one-shots, let us know!

My son loved this set of episodes. He claims it nearly as good as the Side Quest with Sir Brutor. I admit to having had a serious cold so fell asleep while it was playing, but he gave me a long list of the best parts interspersed with fun to answer questions like "mom, what is a cocaine" and "mom, what is 'Nam" (which sparked me having a discussion with him about getting into wars where we dont belong). But after getting over my case of the black death or otherwise horrible plague, I listened again and love this one shot so much.
Side note: I'm making my husband listen to these episodes this weekend so we can maybe work this game in to our 24 hour marathon gaming session to raise money for the NICU unit where our youngest baby was born. 24 hours of tabletop for ExtraLife, our third year in a row so I wanted something different.

Excellent! Grant does an excellent line in one-page games if you're looking for low-prep, somewhat chaotic, quick games - Honey Heist is another good one (you play as a group of bears looking to disrupt an event).

fun to answer questions like "mom, what is a cocaine" and "mom, what is 'Nam" (which sparked me having a discussion with him about getting into wars where we dont belong). Hope that went ok! Just so we know, are there any topics in that front that you feel like would be inappropriate for young listeners? We stick to the itunes age guidelines in general, but beyond that we could potentially put warnings in episode descriptions if it would help.

Just so we know, are there any topics in that front that you feel like would be inappropriate for young listeners? We stick to the itunes age guidelines in general, but beyond that we could potentially put warnings in episode descriptions if it would help. I am a horrible parent to have answer this question. My rule with my kids is that if you are old enough to ask the question you are old enough to deserve an answer. All be it one tailored to fit your level of understanding of the world and with perhaps some more serious parts edited out. But I also feel like if they aren't learning it from me, they are learning it somewhere else which may or may not include actual healthy answers about why drug use is not good for you and why wars are not something we need more of in the world (insert assumptions about my political leanings here and you're likely correct). School in our town started last week, so I'm sure RQG will be the least likely place for uncomfortable discussions to come from now. You guys do a better job than I do keeping language and content friendly for child ears (though I do actually know Klingon if you really want curses). You haven't touched on how drugs are used, which is where my line in the sand would be, and you don't even let violence get so gross that it compares to some video games, so I think you are doing great with the podcast as a whole. I simply listen to RQG with the kids, and Magnus Archives without them. In general, so long as the content isn't the standard trigger warning fare of sexual assault, extreme violence with gruesome descriptions, or otherwise adult content I'm usually fine with just pausing and letting him know if something hits a subject that isn't meant for his age group (seven, nearly eight). Thank you guys for a great, child friendly, gaming podcast. I listen to a few others but none are really made for young ears and plenty of them include more swearing and needless sexual or graphic content than I'm ready to deal with playing in the background while I cook dinner for a pre-schooler and an elementary student.
