Also... Millbank Prison? You built your ESOTERIC ARCHIVE ON THE RUINS OF A ROBERT SMIKE BUILDING?! I have a sudden lack of sympathy. Holy crap! What a ninja spot! How did you find that out? A keen sense of when a clue is being dropped, a large number of hours re-listening to previous episodes, and Google Speaking of ninja spots, Not-Sasha describes Michael as the one "with the bones in his hands". That sounds familiar, right? Except... MAG 26 never describes Michael's hands as bony. Specifically, they're described as "wet leather bags full of thick, heavy stones... sharp stones". His body, in the distortion, is described as boneless, with large hands... but we've definitely heard the phrase "with the bones in his hands" before, right? Indeed we have, fellow Red Stringers - all the way back in MAG 8. Ivo Lensik's father describes his schizophrenic "delusion" as the recognizable because "all the bones are in his hands". I noticed this before, but the fact that Not-Sasha, with no prompting, reused this description, makes me think that this entity, whatever it is, knows a little something about Michael, and a link between it and Lensik Sr. EDIT - Sasha does describe the hands as "bony" once, but my point stands with the similarity of the phrasing! ^.^ EDIT2: 101 posts! Woo! EDIT3: Aww, heck, this is prediction number 2 for my sig.

This episode was so good, I can't wait for December.
There's a lot going on in this ep, and I want to listen to it again before getting all my red string in order. However there is one thing I wanted to mention. I don't know if it's been brought up yet, but while all the tapes that went missing are ones that have Sasha on them, they do still have one tape with real Sasha's voice: The other recording from MAG #39, the one from the spare recorder.

That one "went missing" too - Not-Sasha is adamant she knocked the tape out with the eject button when she dropped the recorder Happy accident that this is the one that contains Sasha's last recording, eh? MAG 39 is weird, because it's actually 2 tapes edited together... thinking about if they were edited together in-universe or not is getting a little meta!

I really loved this episode! Everyone (except for Not Sasha for obvious reasons) sounds so exhausted and traumatized. The description of the worms burrowing into Tim and Jonathan was just so gross.
What was with the look that Elias have Not Sasha? It seems like a given that he knows more than he's letting on so could he sense that something was off about her? Could he know something about Gertrude's death? Maybe covering for the Lucas family?
Jane Prentiss was taken out so quickly that it seems like she's a lower tier monster in the grand scheme of things or at least an introduction to spookier ones to come. Hope we get a bit more information about her next season.
Do we know why Jonathan hates Martin so much? I felt so bad for him especially when he apologized but Jonathan just has no patience for him.

Okay, Wiki page is done.Holy crap, I feel like this episode is a bit of a rabbit hole: there's so much to unpick here. I'll start with Not-Sasha and the patturned table. I feel like Not-Sasha seems very similar to the students in Anatomy Class, where she seems to be being Sasha by rote rather than knowing what things mean. I'm intrigued to see how this will continue to season 2, and what she's trying to achieve. I'm still baffled by Jane Prentiss and what her motives are, and what she really is. There's no indication really of what she is, other than a Flesh Hive. Is it something supernatural, or just a parasite? I feel it's more than that, but still don't know what. I can't shake the feeling there's still so much more to uncover, and I still think there's some kind of worm-dimension that she was in touch with. I thought this originally after hearing her statement where she suggested it. Maybe the worm-door was leading there to get reinforcements? Oh Gertrude, the biggest mystery of them all. What was on those tapes in the cardboard boxes?! Clearly someone in TMI didn't want her to spill the beans. I feel like the Lucas family must be involved. There's somethign sinister about them, from Elias being scared of crossing them 'for funding reasons' and their involvement with the Tundra and the graveyard near their family home... I dunno, I wonder if they're going to be the final boss of TMI. Still no idea what their end goal is, other than to have research done into the esoteric. If Gertrude wasn't killed, why have we seen the ritual in the forest in Scotland? I wonder if someone was trying to protect her to keep her alive, and the only way to kill her wasn't with something supernatural but a few lumps of lead to the heart. I was just thinking that Jane went down too easy to be a major league monster. I mean, still a terrifying shambling worm-ridden wreck, but getting rid of her by dousing her in carbon dioxide seems too...simple for TMA world. I think we'll be hearing from the Flesh Hive again. Plus we don't know how many other victims are infected - potentially anyone's one worm away from being Timothy Hodges. I honestly don't think Jane Prentiss had "motives" - but whatever was controlling her did. I'm pretty suspicious of the Lucas family. If I was up to paranormal shenanigans, funding the collection of items and information about that seems like a good way to keep track of what's out there, have easy access to it and sweep up anything where they might get involved. As far as we know, the Institute seems like the only place that has a legitimate enough facade to make that vaguely respectable. Gertrude was the sole Archivist at the time of her death - then suddenly we have an archivist and three assistants, which seems like a massive priority shift. Perhaps someone's hoping Jonathan and co. will uncover something specific, and would be more amenable than Gertrude Robinson apparently was. Still, it's a strange way to kill someone - there are many, easy ways to dispose of a body rather than just walling it up in a tunnel. Did someone want it to be found? Not-Sasha is one of the most terrifying things about this episode. I'm going to dread her turning up again. Interesting point about the ritual. If someone was trying to protect her then it puts a completely different spin on things - or, perhaps she put it up to protect herself?

This is one of the best podcasts I've ever heard, and the fact that the others in my top-5 are all something like 8-12 eps a season... I just couldn't be more impressed.
I also pat myself on the back for noticing at the outset that Not-Sasha was, well, not Sasha. I was in my car (I'm also highly distractible) and I kept rewinding her sections, because they just didn't feel right. When those she was talking to didn't mention anything, I just felt gaslighted. Very creepy indeed. Bravo!

ohh listened to all of them! I liked Limetown but was sad it was so short. I listen to Tanis as well, but its season just finished too >_< piratehistorypodcast.com/ is pretty awesome sorry, way off topic - i listen to podcast 10 hours a day so it has to be good - which is why Magnus archive will get a binge re-listening!

ohh listened to all of them! I liked Limetown but was sad it was so short. Sad because it didn't finish or sad because it was really good and would have been good to hear more of? I basically need more podcasts to listen to whilst I'm commuting, but I don't really like committing to anything that gets stopped half way through.

I too try for podcasts that are not going to suddenly stop, i don't mind cliffhangers as long as they get resolved! My other addiction was 'sword and scale' which is a true crime one. Very harrowing on many occasions, but the format is really good and it doesn't look like its stopping anytime soon (crime never does eh) I like it because it often speaks to people who are part of the investigations that don't normally get to have a voice on a true crime podcast - paramedics, the ME, public defence lawyers, psychiatrists. He does some historical ones as well like HH Holmes, Jonestown as well as modern ones.

They won't notice (I might be bitter). No one noticed Graham going missing. The only thing that was left of him was an old photograph. Which is a point - why on earth are cassette tapes and black and white film (and, inexplicably, Amy Patel's memory) the only thing that isn't affected by this phenomenon? Has Pacific Rim not taught us that Analogue technology is superior/immune to everything?
