No shoes, no cabbages... no cargo that can be seen. Is this a case of a kind of Flying Dutchman? Well, the accent of the first mate might be a nod in that direction, at any rate. Less outright horror and more incipient dread in this week's... offering. Very nicely done, good building tension that leaves a disturbing sense of unease as we only have our imaginations to come up with happened to Sean Kelly. Any suggestions from you folks? Was there something invisible and incorporeal in those shipping containers, perhaps? And after I just mentioned them in the other plots thread, the Lukas family rises up for an appearance :-) Plus we finally get to meet Tim! (bonus points if you recognise the voice). And kudos to his very diligent and observant group of supplementary researchers

Obviously Cthulhu has something to do with this! More connections! and a slight look further into the Lucas family although I'm unsure what more we can gain about them, except this could be the same kind of mist Naomi Herne was speaking about. I do say it did remind me of the Flying Dutchman or that kind of pirate folk lore about a ship used to collect the souls of the crew. I didn't even connect the first mate being Dutch! I have to say, a PHD in Manifestations sounds so much better than a degree in Marine Biology and Zoology, I defiantly went into the wrong career! I did do a little dance when I heard Tim speaking to a reluctant Jon about the inconsistencies, I admire your creativity and openness to the errors

It was a very warm morning here in Guildford, and I shivered when the name of the captain was mentioned, as well as when Carlita described how "alone" she felt (nice callback!) I don't trust this Dahl character (beyond the obvious reasons). While it's a Germanic name, it's mostly more popular in Norway and Scandanavia than the Netherlands. This is almost certainly not a relevant detail. Or is it?! I also loved how Carlita was complaining about how her bad Spanish wasn't getting her anywhere... I was almost yelling "What kind of sailor are you?! Brazil speaks Portuguese!" Also, as a note, the iTunes feed describes the voyage as Southampton to Porto do Itaqui, and not the other way round (as is correct) I somehow managed to not work out the case numbering system... I was wondering where the statement dates came from

Loved this episode. I especially enjoyed the mention of the Magnus Archive's patrons... I'm excited to find out what the motives for funding are...

As in "Ny-Ă…lesund", the research and former mining town on the Norwegian island of Spitzbergen that Mr Sims posits as being chanted in MAG #25??

Ahh, curses, even when it's right in front of us we don't notice... It's all in the dates.
Sean Kelly's body washed up two months after this statement was allegedly taken, but he was only in the sea for 5 days. Probably a misfiling of the case. I think Mr. Sims is really starting to need a nap... Or there's something else we're missing.
October 2010 - Sean Kelly goes missing January 2011 - Statement MAG 33 is taken (?) April 2011 - Sean Kelly's corpse is found off the coast of Morocco, having only been at sea for 5 days.

Sean Kelly's body washed up two months after the statement was taken, six months after he disappeared, and as far as could be determined had only been in the water for 5 days. All these things are true and accurate.

Sims usually does research after he reads the file, I'm guessing he searched for Sean Kelly and found the information about his body.
Also... I'm guessing this is a co-incidence (famous last words of anyone who works at the institute) but we have had a family called Kelly before, in MAG 21 Freefall, Moira Kelly and Robert Kelly. Could this be related? I'm unsure how at the moment, the events of Freefall happened in 2002 and Sean Kelly was found in 2011. I don't think Moira said she had any other children...

One son lost to the air, and one lost to the sea... I wonder if her daughter married into the Sandersons?

Honorary mention on the Magnus Archives, achievement get! Although, it does worry me a bit if I'm part of the canon now, not too keen on those worms...
I might have missed something about the numbering system, but Sims said it was MMDDYYY, but this is case 0110201. Suggesting that it's the first month, the tenth day and 201X, but Sims says its 1st Jan 2011. I doubt this is incorrect on the transcript (although that would be hilarious), but does this show that Gertrude was inept, or do these numbers mean something else? Or are some of the numbers wrong *on purpose*?! Dunno, I'll have to check when I get back.
I loved how the inconsistencies were dealt with, nice to have them in canon, makes referencing them on the wiki easier (rather than referencing a forum post).
The story itself was good. I wondered if it was Breekon and Hope (sp?) running the ship, but maybe the Lucas family runs them as well. Interesting to see the plot thicken.

Dating system is given as last three digits of the year, then the day, then month, so YYYDDMM and the statement is given on 2nd January 2011 (since I doubt even the Institute would be open New Year's Day), so 011/02/01 fits - but it's a very weird system!
