And roll on Part 4, as we conclude our stay in the depths of Spire. We hope you've enjoyed this little foray into something a bit different (whilst still putting the inimicable RQ spin on things), a little more darker and mature than #RQGaming usually goes for. We'll make sure to continue signposting future specials, where they veer from the generally 'family-friendly' tone that our shows usually adopt. But please, let us know if this is something that went down well, would you like us to do more things like this? Are there any particular settings or systems you'd like to see us try? Would you want to see us return to Spire next year maybe? Also, if you enjoyed the setting, you can pick up the book from the Rowan, Rook & Decard website: rowanrookanddecard.com/AND the first sourcebook for it, Strata, has just launched its Kickstarter, you can support it HERE

OR: "To sleep, perchance to dream"Well, here we are at the end of the finale, at the end of The Magnus Archives' most ambitious series. It's been an absolute rollercoaster for everyone, no doubt about that. We hope you've enjoyed this series - we've certainly enjoyed making it, even if things have been a bit strained at times here at Rusty Towers to get it all ready in time No doubt this episode is deeply satisfying on many levels, though I also imagine it's both better and worse than folks have been imagining. At least, there's no cliffhanger about their statuses, right... There's a lot to unpick, so I'll leave you all to your musings with the most apt quote I reckon: “To die, to sleep – to sleep, perchance to dream – ay, there’s the rub, for in this sleep of death what dreams may come…” -- Hamlet ( Hamlet, Act III, Scene I)

The LOLOMG team take a little break as we welcome long-standing RQ Friend Grant Howitt back into the studio! Grant (Goblin Quest, Jason Statham's Big Vacation, Paranoia) joins us to showcase his latest game - SPIRE - a darker game of freedom fighters, downtrodden drow fending off the oppression of their high elf overlords, from the various crevices and staging grounds of a staggeringly large city.
The crew (sans Bryn) take to this with their usual aplomb and seriousness... That said, listener discretion is advised for future parts (this is a 4 part series), as this is a darker/more mature setting than we have tackled in previous specials, and some of the themes have closer resonance with real world issues than some folk might be comfortable with.
Note: I won't be creating separate threads here for each part, but will just update this post from week-to-week.
Part One - "The Play's the Sting" In which we get introduced to the players, the city, the mechanics and the various dramatis personae of the scenario. We get our usual motley crew and I guess start taking bets on how annoying a character Alex will be playing. A bit of a slow start, potentially, but there's a lot to cover - we hope you find this interesting as we ramp up to the core performance...
Part Two - "Method Acting" In which we start learning more about the opera and its characters, notably the ingenue magician, Jeska Malriek. There's plenty of sauce being ladled around, from Ben in boudoir to Helen in the kitchens, though the side helping of a dressing down in the latter's case is rather unpalatable to the sergeant. Will revenge be a dish best served cold or with hot steel? Meanwhile, the bees manage to do some actual research and find that things may be more sinister than at first glance... get
Part Three - "To Bee or Not to Bee" In which Act II is bringing us to the climax (albeit in true aelfir style - very slowly) of the piece, as Melanie and the Sergeant attempt to get leverage through the power of bee-ing unreasonable, the inevitable costume-swapping part occurs leading to 'hilarious' identity mixups and shots are very definitely fired.
Part Four - "The Grand Final-bee"
In which we wrap up everything with a nice little bow explosion, as Melanie and the Sergeant attempt to give the Captain some good news, there is murder on the Vermissian Express and death leads to some new resolutions...

As we start prepping the Season 3 credits, it's time to reach out to the audience once again and ask for your questions. With the season break coming up, we will be recording our usual mailbag episode(s) with Alex and Jonny, so if you have anything you'd like to ask about the show, the production or just generally, please pitch them here!
A few caveats as usual: we cannot talk about anything that might be spoilers, and we will generally avoid covering questions that have already been answered in previous Q&As or behind the scenes eps unless answers have substantially changed.
You may submit your questions here, and this thread will close on Friday 5th October at 8am UK time - just over a week after MAG120 airs, so you'll have time to listen to the season closer.

OR: "Dance like no body is watching"
Like a rollercoaster, Season 3 careens into the final plummet as our intrepid (or should that be hapless?) team find themselves deep within the Unknowing as Stranger dances its design of disguise and deception. A cast of many take their turns upon this stage - this is probably the most ambitious episode of TMA to date with 10 different voice actors all contributing their talents.
Critiques and compulsion, exhortations and explosion - this episode had it all and there's not much I can add, short of this'll take time to process. *HUGS* and blankets are available in the foyer of Rusty Towers.
Join us next week as we bring the final curtain down on Season 3.

OR: "Blasts and the Past"Well, it seems after much (seeming) digression, LOLOMG are back on their original path, with some solid info on the Simulacrum project and who should show up - or rather, be delivered neatly tied up - but Barratt Racket, Sasha's erstwhile 'uncle'. What's the betting that this is all going to be tied up nice and neatly? Takeaway message from this ep - don't walk up unannounced on a party of adventurers as they just finish a fight. It's liable to get you an arrow in delicate places at the very least. Imagine if it wasn't Grizzop's arrows but Hamid's fireball that was on readied trigger finger. Especially given the way the dice were falling for Bryn here So, what do you think Barrat has for them? And what of the guy who looks a bit like Wellington? Are we in for some more beef? Will LOLOMG put the boot in further?

OR: "Fear wears many faces"
The final stretch. Plans are in motion. The battle is joined. The first shots are fired.
It's time to put down the red string and grab your comfort devices - the Unknowing is upon us and everyone has their part to play in this grand show. From the realisations at the House of Wax to Martin, a lighter and a stack of old statements, the players are in place. But the spotlight has yet to shine and we have to wonder who will be standing at the final curtain and who may have exited, stage down.
Lots of threads coming together in this one, and we finally get more of Martin's backstory... though I'm not sure this is the way any of us would have wanted it delivered. Heartbreaking and vicious - serious kudos to both Alex & Ben's performances here.
Stay in your seats folks, the main act is yet to come...

OR: "A Whole Host of Trouble"Our heroes continue to be (somewhat) suitably sneaky this week as they creep about the complex looking for answers. And it looks like they found them. Along with trouble. An army sized load of potential trouble. Oh, and a chimera. Just a shame that their exit couldn't be as smooth as their entrance, though Hamid does earn some style points for his increasing "Burn It With Fire" approach to dealing with problems So, a lot of supposed simulacra appear to being stockpiled, like an adamantine Terracotta Army... nothing ever bad has come from row upon row of identical looking figures, has it? Who are these intended for? What is their purpose? Let the speculation begin!

OR: "Stoking the flames"
The eve of battle approaches. And understandably our team are nervous. Who can tell what the morrow will bring? The variables are many, still much that is unknown... and yet, there is resolution, there is determination despite the fear. There is passion to get things done, to end this, to put The Stranger out of commission for another few centuries. The fires are burning within them, but just how big will this conflagration get?
On a personal note, this has to be one of my favourite episodes from this season - and this has been a season of highlights for me. Just the way that it manages to twist the central statement conceit in a way that still works, similar and yet fundamentally different to the testimonies as given in MAG040 (which closed out Season 1). And every single performance was right on the button, triggering all the feels.
But the calm must break, tension must be released. The storm will rage, but who will be left to understand proceedings? Will our team come out of this intact? What casualties do you project? Who are you scared for?

There's probably something in looking at gamer superstitions, particularly amongst folk who have scientific/maths backgrounds and understand probability

OR: "Best Laid Plans of Orcs and Goblins (and Humans and Halflings)" *cues up generic heist planning music* *camera cuts to overhead shot of LOLOMG standing around a table, lit by a single lamp, staring at factory layout* *smash cut to opening to opening credits and individual splash screens for each character, complete with name and heist role*So, it's time for a little breaking and entering as LOLOMG try to get to the bottom of the mystery at Ratchet's. Why is security so tight? What don't they want people to see? Why do these guards seem to be disobeying all narrative convention and actually displaying tactical competence? Why is there so much meat? Why does this show veer perilously close at times to a crossover with The Magnus Archives? We get to see Sasha in her element as she puts her considerable sneaky skills to good use, and gets to show off the valuable expertise gained from her 'time in the antiquities trade' And we find out that, yes, Azu can glow less if needs be - though obviously why would anyone NOT want to be a shining hot pink beacon of loveliness at all times?? So, after a few scrapes and mishaps, they make it in - what are they going to find?
