Side note: Are most of the folks who used to post here just using Discord for discussions now? Seems pretty quiet lately and I haven't seen @justsomebodysmom or hyoscyamus in quite awhile. I just tend not to post when I've got nothing unique to say besides gushing over how good each episode is or how amazing <X> character is. Not that the episodes haven't been thought provoking or anything; just no thoughts I deemed worth sharing.

I'm so torn now.
I really want Tim to get more involved with Jon's crusade against The Unknowing. Maybe working together against something as terrifying as The Unknowing will help patch up Tim and Jon's relationship (I hesitate to call it friendship).
But I really don't want Elias to murder Tim.
Damn it all.

Jon actively using his power to coerce a civilian tickled me in multiple ways.
I wonder how long before he starts gaining control of the other ability that Elias was gushing over in the previous episode.

AHHHHHH WE'RE BACK!
So Michael says Jon is a better Archivist than Gertrude was? Even though she's so badass?
Hmm...
Maybe competency doesn't necessarily equal effectiveness in the position of Head Archivist?

What.
The.
Hell.
Hahaha!
All of the assistants have infinitely more patience than I would have. I would've sent the woman to whom Martin was speaking packing after 90 seconds.
Arachnophobia guy would get even less time than that.
Hilarity aside, it's interesting how all the assistants managed to slip out right as Peter Lucas (of Magnus 33 fame) shows up. I wonder if the impeccable timing has to do with (as Lucas himself mentioned) Elias being protective of his employees.
Some kind of subliminal control/warning?
And what is Lucas's deal, any way? He somehow damned arachnophobia guy (Brian) just by talking to him. No discernible reason nor motive, just suddenly "And I'm sure you need some time to get used to your new situation. Good luck, Brian." And boom, Brian is probably dead or in a state worse than death.
Is it as simple as him wanting to feed his entity/power?
And all of THIS aside... the next six weeks are going to be hell.

Welcome back! "Nothing Beside Remains" is one of my favorite episodes this season too. Really excellent tension. As for the six week break, I wholeheartedly agree about the torture part. I didn't get into Magnus until the past year so cliffhangers were never a problem, just jumped straight to the next episode. No such luxury this time. Yeah, I first discovered Magnus back in July and I marathoned all that was out in a couple of days. It was bliss.

I've been away awhile. Dropped something like 350 hours into Monster Hunter World, and Magnus isn't a podcast I want to passively listen to, so I fell way behind. When I listen to Magnus it has to have my full attention, so I've just now caught up, marathoning the last 10 episodes. Holy hell a lot has happened.
I don't even know where to begin, but "Nothing Beside Remains" in particular was such an outstanding episode I had chills.
And then Gertrude was back for this episode, with the badass line "But there's ten years yet, before I can afford a conscience."
One more episode until the 6 week break. It's going to be torture.

I'm super happy Basira is back. Martin thinking she "liked" Jon was hilariously done.
We've had a couple episodes this season so far that really paint vivid pictures of what a descent into madness is like, and yet this one and "Upon the Stair" manage to still feel like they're touching different forms of madness such that the episodes feel wholly unique.
I also love how the statement glossed over murdering the bookseller.
"Before I dug into him." And that's all you really get.
This was so good.

Let me just take the time to repeat something I'm sure I've said before.
GERTRUDE IS SUCH A BADASS.

This episode made me turn the lights on in my room. I've known that poem for a long time and the poem by itself was already unsettling, so this episode compounded upon that in the best way.

Oh baby, we're back and it feels so good (in the most horrifying way).
I wonder if a dark void would've just opened and pulled in young Jonathan if he had knocked on the book panel in the middle of the park.

IT'S HAPPENING. IT'S HAPPENING!
Oh man I'm so excited. And Gertrude is so badass and competent that I'm terrified about how someone or something got into position to murder her in the first place.
I only hope that seasons later, our current Archivist can somewhat approach the level of knowledge and badassery Gertrude possessed.

"I KNOW WHAT A MEME IS." Oh Archivist, I love you.
Any way, fantastic episode. I admit these last couple episodes have scratched more of the mystery solving itch for me than the creepy/horror itch (referencing Jonathan Sims's comments about the balancing act between horror and mystery) but I don't consider this a bad thing; I'm as heavily invested in the meta plot as I am in the monster-of-the-week scares after all.

Oh baby, our dear Archivist has the tapes! Basira's last words dripped with finality but I love her character and hope we see her again (and not in a situation that leads to her death, or worse).
I always love these Leitner related episodes, too.
